Week 2 Film Review: St. Charles North

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>For Week 2 Film Review, we're taking a look at St. Charles North Standouts from their matchup against Lake Zurich. It was a back-and-forth game where St. Charles North was able to prevail with a 21-10 win. On defense, he can cover sideline to sideline as he triggers downhill in close space and flows to the ball well. Throughout the night he was getting involved in run support meeting the ball carrier at the line of scrimmage for no gain on the play. On offense, he can break weak grab tackles by keeping his feet driving. Once he finds an alley he can burst through and break it for six/a long run by gaining a step on 2nd level defenders. One play in particular that stands out was when he ran a stunt into the opposite B gap. In this play, he was quick out of his stance and got into the backfield during the stunt closing quickly on the quarterback to secure the sack for a big loss on the play. Throughout the game, he showcased his arm strength to make cross-body throws on the run on deep shots downfield and puts the ball where his receivers can go up to get it. If you try to collapse the pocket around him, he can do one of two things. The first is standing strong in the pocket to get the ball off as a defender is right in his face and the second is he escapes the pocket to extends plays by keeping his eyes downfield. Both of which result in a completion downfield to keep the chains moving. This young man can secure the receiver screen and get vertical quickly. When the ball is in his hands, he can make the first defender miss in open space as well. What's equally as impressive is his ability to go up for 50/50 balls to secure the contested catch. When doing so, he can jolt the defender upright and get his hands inside. Once he does so, he keeps his feet driving and can then drive the defender back 5+ yards on the play creating a running lane for his halfback to hit. This aggressive run blocker is one to keep an eye on this fall season and one you don't want to overlook. When he doubles the defensive end with the offensive tackle they're able to drive the defender 10+ yards downfield before putting the defender in the dirt. If he's blocking one on one, he can use his quick punch at the point of attack to get his hands inside. Once he does, he can either wash the defender down the line of scrimmage or kickout the defender creating a running lane for his teammate to hit.
