The week included nationally televised games and a bevy of competitive matchups that featured many skilled student-athletes. The few listed below are the ones that improved their stock the most based on their production in game one.
STOCK UP PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Colton Vasek – Westlake High – Class of 2024
Colton is a 6’6” 230-pound senior defensive linemen that put on a show in week one. The Oklahoma commit was a mismatch in pass rush situations and finished with four QB pressures and two solo sacks. He also had six solo tackles and impressed me with the leverage that he was able to play with in the run game. He’s a well-coached, fluid athlete with great range that will be fun to watch as the season progresses.

Corbin Griffin – Midlothian High- Class of 2023
Corbin is a 6’4 275 pound offensive line recruit out of Midlothian, Texas that was physical, nasty, and had some mean finishes that pop out on tape. Week one is usually where the most mental errors pop up for offensive linemen but he played a clean game and noticeably had more snappiness out of his stance and did a good job keeping hand control of his defender.

Jack Kayser – Westlake High – Class of 2024
Jack had a massive game versus Ridge Point and did a great job of building on his sophomore All America (Media) performance last fall. The well-decorated running back who was also the 2021 district 26-6A newcomer of the year last fall, has started this season off with a bang. He rushed for 168 yards on 23 total carries for an impressive average of 7.3 yards per rush. He was decisive with his cuts and did a great job getting north and south. He helped put three touchdowns on the board and will be an integral piece to Westlake getting back to the state championship game this fall.

Rashaad Johnson Rashaad Johnson 5'9" | 210 lbs | RB North Shore | 2023 State TX – North Shore High- Class of 2023
Rashaad is a 5’8 210 pound running back out of Houston, Texas.
He is a talented athlete that put on a show in week 1. I was impressed with his patience through the hole and his ability and willingness to hit their inside zone runs down hill. He also put multiple defenders on highlights and did a good job trucking through guys when needed. He effectively followed his blocks and helped lead his squad to a dominant week one victory over The Woodlands.

Colin Simmons Colin Simmons 6'3" | 225 lbs | DL Duncanville | 2024 State TX – Duncanville High- Class of 2024
Colin is one of the state’s most highly publicized players and showed great burst, explosion, and elite pass rush ability. Many recruiting outlets have him rated as a five-star defender and his performance on the night showed everyone why. The opposing team’s Defensive Coordinator called him unblockable in a post-game Twitter space and he was undoubtedly a determining factor in his team pulling out a win on ESPN2.
