These three prospects are not only new to the site but new to me as I continue to expand further north of Pennsylvania. I couldn’t help but catch wind of the performance put on by the Staples trio, especially Caleb Smith. Caleb Smith, a junior quarterback with no starts under his belt, couldn’t have had a better debut this past weekend. Smith was efficient in all areas passing the football, especially in the red zone, delivering accurate and catchable balls, two of which led to scores. Smith went on to complete 16 of his 23 passes for 240+ yards. That stat line alone would be worthy of mention, why not tack on 3 more scores on the ground while churning up turf for 120 yards. He did this damage on just six carries. His tape would lead you to believe he’s a heavy runner behind center, I don’t think this is the case. I have a lot to learn, but if Caleb Smith continues dominating defenses this way, he’ll find a high placement in our ranks after the season.
Tyler Clark
Tyler Clark
Tyler Clark, who looks a lot bigger and faster than his measurables suggest, was the main recipient of more than half of Smith’s passes. Clark reeled in nine balls for 161 yards, accounting for most of the passing yards for the Wrecker offense. The kid’s bread and butter will likely be after the catch, considering most of the yards he accumulated came as a result of a broken tackle in the open field. Clark could have easily scored twice on the night, coming up just two yards short of the goal line on one reception. The Smith and Clark connection looks to be in mid-season form. I expect more of the same this week against St. Joe’s.
Michael Nealon
Michael Nealon
We talked a ton about the offensive output led by Smith and Clark. How about some love for the other side of the football. Michael Nealon’s motor was revving early and often, recording 13 total tackles on the night, three of which were behind the line of scrimmage. His stat line doesn’t do his performance justice, as Nealon pressured and hurried multiple throws, an impact area that doesn’t show up in the box score. I’m still unfamiliar with the program, but I’d love to find out more about this kid, measurables, college interest, etc. I’ll have my eyes peeled week in and week out.
