The offense was out last week and in full effect with teams having offensive shootouts all around the state. So, let’s see who showed us why they are the Stars and Studs of South Dakota.
Nic Gaspar Nic Gaspar 6'2" | 185 lbs | ATH Dell Rapids St. Mary | 2024 State SD – RB/LB, Dell Rapids Saint Mary’s
Gasper was dominant on all sides of the ball in his team’s win last week and was the MVP for his team which lead them to victory. Gasper played efficiently on both sides, he showed his talent on both sides where I saw him play with 120% effort on both. On the offensive side, he was the lead back for his team and along with being the lead rusher for them this game. He racked up 224 yards for 8 carries total giving him a yards per carry of 28. He was the main facilitator to keep his offense running smoothly and he did that with 5 rushing touchdowns which his team used to spring themselves to the win. That is just on the offense, on the defense he was one of the X-Factors that locked down the other team’s offensive attack. He played lockdown defense all game and was making every tackle he needed making sure not one defender could pull away from him. He racked up 13 tackles, along with a pass defended that led to an interception from his teammate not a moment later, making his value immeasurable. Gasper was elite on both sides of the ball and showed us that with his play making him one of South Dakota’s top players of the week.
Bodell Davidson Bodell Davidson LB Britton-Hecla | 2023 State – LB/QB, Britton Hecla
Davidson was also a player who impacted his team on both sides of the ball but did it in a little bit different way. He made his presence known on the defensive side where he made key tackles and stops to make the offense adust and punt when he makes that key stop. While it does not show up in the box score of his tackles, those who watched him saw that he made tackles that were key to stopping momentum from forming and getting the ball back in the court of his team. He had 7 total tackles this game along with 1 TFL which only adds to how great he played in this game. As a quarterback, he played just as great with him having 7 rushes for 181 yards and having 3 total rushing touchdowns in the game. He went off for those big runs that allows him to have a high yards per carry total of 25.9. He broke tackles and set up his team to get into the end zone not to mention him throwing a passing touchdown too. Overall, he was a force on both sides of the ball and showed how great you can be when you play at a high level of both.
Lincoln Kienholz Lincoln Kienholz 6'3" | 185 lbs | QB Pierre | 2023 State – QB
Another week, another great performance from Kienholz that you expect to be weekly at this point with what he does. Like he does every time he steps onto the field, Kienholz was playing on another level when he has the pig skin in his hands. To start, he went 17-31 which went for 309 passing yards that netted him 4 passing touchdowns. He put the ball in the air and he did it well, he linked up with just about all of the receivers with him sspradin the rock around evenly to get everyone in. Kienholz also made sure to show off his running game this week with his ability as a dual-threat QB truly coming out. He rushed 12 times for a total of 160 rushing yards with also netted him 3 rushing touchdowns. What else can you say about Kienholz that has not been said already. He had 469 total yards of offense and just a casual 7 total touchdowns. With the show Kienholz put out on the field, he is this week’s South Dakota Stars and Studs player of the week.
Owen Heath Owen Heath 6'3" | 200 lbs | DB West Central | 2023 – WR, West Central
West Central has been on a roll so far this year and Heath made sure that would not stop last week. Heath was unstoppable last week and anyone who tried to contain him quickly learned that they couldn’t. Heath was using his size and speed to create separation to make the distance between him and defensive backs. His box score showed how he was the key for the offense with him having 10 total receptions with him having 182 yards out of it. He had some big gains but also had some smaller chunk yardage that allowed others to be involved. His biggest contribution in this game was not his yardage but his 5 total receiving touchdowns were the main piece of his team’s offense. Heath was the star of the night for his team’s offensive game and without him, it is fair to say the night would not have been the same.
