The national exposure that this state received with many out-of-state matchups, everyone will now be paying attention each and every Thursday, Friday and Saturday to what’s happening in the Sunshine State.
As we have often said during spring and summer, there is not going to be an off week when it comes to marquee matchups, and this week is certainly no exception.
Every Friday, we will bring you 10 games that you need to check out of they happen to be in your area.
Here are the 10 this week:
No. 13. Fort Lauderdale Dillard (3M, (1-0). No. 2. At Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna (1M, (1-0), Friday, 7:00. Both teams opened the season in the Broward High School Football Showcase and each came away with victories. This is a really interesting game – with Dillard head coach Tyler Tate coming over two years from Chaminade-Madonna. The Lions can maintain their lofty standing – while the Panthers can further wake some people up!
Port St. Lucie Treasure Coast (4M, 0-1) at No. 5. Tampa Jesuit (3M, (1-0), Friday, 7:00. Regarded as one of the top teams in the state before last week’s loss, the Titans are up against it on the road against the defending and unbeaten state champs, who were tested in the opener. Both teams have talent. Can Treasure Coast avoid going 0-2 to start 2022?
No. 8. Sanford Seminole (4M, (1-0) at No. 25. Kissimmee Osceola (4S, 1-0), Friday, 7:00. Classic Orange/Osceola County matchup with status and ranking at stake. The Seminole believe they are as good as anyone in Florida, and the Kowboys can make a statement with several young players. This is a classic where one team will emerge with bragging rights and status.
Jacksonville Raines (2M, 1-0) at No. 12 Jacksonville Trinity Christian (1M, 1-0), Friday, 7:30. Both opened the season with tough games, and while this may be the best that Duval County has to offer, it is indeed a marquee matchup where everyone across the state will be watching. The Conquerors have ruled the area and state – while the Vikings have produced some impressive teams.
No. 14. Orlando Jones (3M, (1-0) at Duncanville, Texas (1-0), Saturday, 3 p.m. The Tigers are a confusing team to figure. Losing convincingly at home to Miami Northwestern in the kickoff classic and then going on the road and beating a Cocoa team that many felt was one of the best in the state. The task is daunting on the road against a national power. This is certainly a statement game for Elijah Williams and his team.
Don Bosco Prep, Ramsey, N.J. (1-0) at No. 15. Orlando Edgewater (3M, (1-0), Friday, 7:00. A huge step up for the Eagles as they play host to a national power – with plenty at stake. If this team is to be regarded as a nationally-recognized program, this game provides that forum as many across the country will follow the outcome. State power or national team? That will be answered Friday night.
Naples (3S, 1-0) at No. 17. Venice (4S, (0-1), Friday, 7:00. This could be one of the best games of the week – at any level. After losing at home against Miami Northwestern last week to open the season, the 8A state champs from a year ago will host a program that has won an amazing amount of regular season games in the past 10 years – and have plenty to prove. Do the Indians fall to 0-2? This one can go either way!
No. 18. Palm Beach Central (4M, (1-0) at No. 24 St. Petersburg Lakewood, Friday, 7:00. Here is a pair of programs who have not received respect. The Spartans win, win and win some more – only to fall short against elite teams. The Broncos, who scored 80 points in the opener and went unbeaten in the regular season in 2021, have so much to prove on the big stage.
No. 20. Apopka (4M, (1-0) at Winter Garden West Orange (4M, 1-0), Friday, 7:00. Here is a game where both teams come in with a huge chip on their shoulder. Apopka’s opener was not what the 2021 8A state runner up wanted – while the Warriors opened a new era. Statement game for both programs early in the season.
22. Pensacola Pine Forest (3S, (1-0) at Navarre (4S, 1-0), 7:30 CDT. When you are hidden in a different time zone and rarely get exposure, every game you play will judge you, and last year’s 6A runner up realizes that. On the road against a Raider team that is searching for that signature win. Does it come tonight?
