I got a chance to see Reed Custer LIVE in action as they took on the Peotone Blue Devils. Coming into the contest, Reed Custer was ranked as the #2 team in 3A football with Peotone being ranked as #12. Reed Custer’s high-scoring attack was too much for the Blue devils as they came away with a 41-0 win getting to 5-0 on the season so far. With that being said, let’s take a look at some of the Reed Custer Comets that caught my eye and need a closer watch the rest of this fall season.

Mr. Foote had himself an impressive showing Friday night as he wasn’t afraid to win over the top to secure contested catches on 50/50 balls. His ability to be a deep threat and secure contested catches is one to keep an eye on the rest of this fall season. The Comets also have a wildcat package where this young man is in the backfield with Jace Christian Jace Christian 6’1″ | 200 lbs | RB Reed-Custer | 2023 State IL to either be a lead blocker or be the primary ball carrier – another way to get the ball into his hands. This young man finished the night with 3 TDs (2 from air attack, 1 from rushing) and is going to cause defensive coordinators headaches the rest of this fall season. Twitter
Mr. McPherson was a man on a mission Friday night getting involved in both offensive attacks both with his arm and legs. When this young man works in platform he can set his feet and add a touch on deep shots downfield putting the ball into the receiver’s basket. What stands out the most about his game is how he can use his foot quicks to not only keep the sticks moving but break long runs for six once he finds the cutback lane. Mr. McPherson has positioned himself as a dual-threat QB that can command this offensive unit. Twitter

Josh Bohac

Mr. Bohac is a new name to me this fall season and one that was making his mark during Friday night’s contest. This young man has a low center of gravity and foot quicks to him which makes it difficult to tackle at times. The Comets got the ball into his hands in a variety of ways whether that was on straight handoffs, jet sweeps, halfback screens, and even in the air attack. All of which this young man was able to get vertical quickly once the ball was in his hands and showcase his shiftiness making defenders miss in open space. All in all, this young man is one of many weapons that are on this Comet’s offensive attack and look for him to continue to make his impact felt the rest of this fall season. Twitter
Mr. Christian took snaps as a wildcat QB on offense to get involved in the run game where he could stay ahead of the sticks by being a downhill style runner. His performance really stood out on the defensive side of the ball where he showcases his range to secure tackles on the perimeter limiting the ball carrier to turn the corner. It seemed as if wherever the Blue Devils tried to run the ball, this young man was meeting the ball carrier at/near the line of scrimmage for no gain on the play. I would not only watch for this young man to continue his production on defense but also look out for his offensive production to increase as the season goes on. Below are his highlights from the first two weeks of the season to get a look at how he performed before coming into this matchup. Twitter
Highlights
Mr. Marschner works on both sides of the ball taking snaps on the O-Line and D-Line. Where he shined the most Friday night was on the offensive side of the ball. Here, he was able to sustain his run blocks to create a running lane for his ball carrier to hit. This is mainly seen when he’s blocking in-line where he keeps his feet driving once he latches onto the defender. Also is a darn good Wrestler going state consecutively placing 2nd and 3rd. Twitter
Gavin Bruciak

Mr. Bruciak is another new name to me this fall season and one that had a good showing on the defensive side of the ball Friday night. His highlights are below from Friday’s game, but you can see right out of the gate his ability to shoot gaps to disrupt plays in the backfield. This was much of the same the rest of the game as he was either securing tackle for losses along the perimeter or meeting the ball carrier at the line of scrimmage for little to no gain as he plugs the B and C gaps. All in all, this young man can maintain gap control and is a run-stopping D-Lineman to keep an eye on for the rest of this fall season. Twitter
