Continue ReadingThis game was a tale of two halves. Both teams came out with their defenses ready to play. Marshfield’s DL Isaac Dagit Isaac Dagit 6'3" | 240 lbs | DL Marshfield | 2023 State WI led the charge for the Tigers defense. He collected an opening drive sack; the first of three first half sacks. Marshfield’s offense was able to take the ball down the field slowly before being held to a 35 yard field goal that sailed through for the 3-0 lead. Not to be outdone, D.C. Everest’s defense stepped up on their second drive. DB Matt Nielsen jumped a pas after a bit of a scramble drill from the QB. The two offenses couldn’t find their rhythm though as the first quarter expired with Marshfield leading 3-0.
The Evergreens continued their defensive dominance with another INT. This time off a tipped pass. The offenses finally woke up on the following drive. QB Jack Bobinski found WR deep down their right sideline for a 17 yard score, and the 7-3 lead. Marshfield’s offense again put together a drive, and they weren’t settling for three points this time. QB Trevor Foemmel Trevor Foemmel 6'2" | 190 lbs | QB Marshfield | 2023 State WI found WR Luke Lemoine Luke Lemoine 6'5" | 195 lbs | WR Marshfield | 2023 State WI on a deep pass over the middle of the field, and then found him on a fade route into the corner of the endzone for the 10-7 halftime lead.
After only 3 scores in the first 11 possessions, things took a big turn for the offenses in the second half on Friday night. It started with D.C. Everest banging through a 32 yard field goal to tie it up at 10-10. From there, Marshfield QB Trevor Foemmel Trevor Foemmel 6'2" | 190 lbs | QB Marshfield | 2023 State WI took over with his legs and arm. The first big play was when Foemmel took off for a 52 yard rushing TD mid third quarter. A drive later, Foemmel broke loose again for a 71 yard TD, and the 24-10 lead. The next drive, Bobinski used his arm and legs to close it to a one score game. His three yard rushing TD cut it to 24-17 to end the quarter.
Marshfield’s Foemmel again took to the air finding WR Luke Lemoine Luke Lemoine 6'5" | 195 lbs | WR Marshfield | 2023 State WI for their second TD connection of the game. after Marshfield defender Garrett Willuweit forced a fumble, Foemmel found big TE Sam Meverden on their first play of the drive from 13 yards out. After back to back stops, the Evergreens got their offense going. QB Bobinski led them down the field, and punched it in on the ground from 3 yards out. With the score 37-24, it looked like we might have a game on our hands. However, Marshfield’s Mason Seidl Mason Seidl 5'10" | 200 lbs | RB Marshfield | 2024 State WI broke free for a 47 yard T on his only carry of the game. Everest’s Cayden Bangston punched in a TD at the buzzer to give us the final score of Marshfield: 44 D.C. Everest: 30
Prospects of the Game
Stats: 10/16, 150 Passing Yards, 3 TDs, 13 Carries, 185 Rushing Yards, 2 TDsrnThe 6’2″ 190 lbs signal caller had himself a day on Friday night! He put on a show with his dual threat ability as he piled up 300+ total yards, and as responsible for 5 TDs. On the ground, Trevor was calm as he found lanes out of the pocket, elusive in the open field, and had the speed to be a threat to house every carry. His vision in the open was field was also impressive. He saw cutback lanes, and blocks. Through the air, Trevor demonstrated solid touch on his passes. He put the ball up high where only his man could go up and get it. Foemmel was also a decisive, accurate passer in the short game. It was an impressive showing for the senior QB.
Stats: 5 Receptions, 75 Yards, 2 TDsrnA philosophy that teams will use when building their WR rooms is approach it like a basketball team. If you’re looking for a big man for your WR room, this is your man. The 6’5″ 200 lbs WR has elite size and length. The best part is that he uses it exactly how he should. He attacks the ball in the air. He boxes out like he is going up for a rebound on the hardwood. His soft hands allowed him to use his full length because he didn’t need to allow the ball into his body. LeMoine is a legit redzone threat who brings the ability to “Moss” DBs anywhere on the field.
Stats: 14 Tackles, 3 SacksrnIsaac led the way for a Marshfield DL that was wrecking havoc in the backfield all night long. Especially in the first half. The big man demonstrated good burst snap after snap. His ability to get off the ball, and close in the backfield led to a quick end to a lot of plays. His high motor, and quick recognition skills allowed tie for his offense to find their groove. Dagit was also clutch on multiple occasions. He ended drives with key third down TFLs, and sacks. Isaac is a powerful, disruptive option on the edge for a D3, and potentially D2 program to consider. He is under the radar it appears.
Jeff Marsh
Jeff Marsh
Stats: 18 Carries, 82 YardsrnThe 6’1″ 190 lbs senior looks the part of a next level RB. He played the part on Friday night too. His vision was his most dominant trait. Jeff quickly scanned along his OL for holes, and was able to cut and accelerate through the alleys the instant he saw them. Marsh is a physical runner. He finished runs by lowering his shoulder, and falling forward. The starting RB also easily ran through arm tackles. I didn’t know about Jeff coming into the game, but he should be an option on the radar of D3s. Check out the highlights!
Stats: Starting LG, 327 Rushing Yards, 150 Passing Yards, 6 Total TDsrnThe 6’3″ 265 lbs LG was a bully on Friday night. Noah plays with solid technique. He keeps his hands inside, maintains a wide base, and it leads to him having his way with the IDL he faces. Friday night gave me a great look at how much of an impact he can have as a run blocker. Noah’s power stands out as he washes linemen down the line. Drives them off the ball. Puts them in the ground. That power translates to his anchor in pass protection. When he sinks his hips Noah is able to stop bull rushers. The senior is under the radar. Give him a look.
Stats: Starting OC, 223 Passing Yards, 138 Rushing Yards, 4 TDsrnThe starting OC is one of the Top 5 linemen in northern WI, and one of the 15 best overall. Just a few weeks ago the big man received his first D1 offer from Eastern Michigan. It is well deserved after watching his Friday night. He is very stout at center. He was able to prevent the pocket from collapsing all night long. His 6’6″ wingspan allows him to play bigger than his 6’2″ frame might suggest. Cole gets hands on quickly, and uses his heavy mits to clamp onto and control linemen. Very excited for his future.
Preston Miller
Preston Miller
Stats: 7 Receptions, 70 Yards, 1 TDrnThe 6’4″ 180 lbs was a new athlete for me, and he needs to be on the radar of the D3 level. What surprised me most was his route running. The big man showed off some impressive body control coming out of his breaks as well as along the sideline. They used him a ton on out routes, and Preston delivered. He has naturally soft hands. The big man also has enough speed to stretch the field, and in the redzone he has the size to go over defenders. Definitely a diamond in the rough to know.
Jack Bublinski
Jack Bublinski
Stats: 16/23, 223 Passing Yards, 1 TD, 6 Yards Rushing, 2 Rushing TDsrnThe 6′ 175 lbs senior passer is a gamer. He doesn’t have elite size or arm talent, but he kept getting it done. Jack did a great job of always keeping DC Everest in the game. His ability to move in the pocket, and buy time was key to several big pass plays. He attacked down the field aggressively, and was quick to make decisions. The athletic QB might not be a QB at the next level, but might be worth looking at as an ATH at the D3 level.
