It was a defensive game and both teams played very disciplined on defense. Special teams played a factor in this game. It was a good one. Starkville would end up on top. They won’t the game 21-20.
Louisville had the ball first and they couldn’t get anything going. Starkville’s defense was holding tight and making an early statement. It was time for Starkville to get their chance at scorinf on the first drive. Trey Petty Trey Petty 6'1" | 190 lbs | QB Starkville | 2024 State MS didn’t have many throwing lanes. Louisville’s defense was letting it be known they can play too. Gabriel Moore Gabriel Moore 6'4" | 245 lbs | DL Louisville | 2023 State MS was on a determined mission to make things happen this game.
In the second quarter Starkville would get some things going on offense. Jaylon York Jaylon York 6'0" | 175 lbs | ATH Starkville | 2023 State MS and Braylon Burnside Braylon Burnside 6'1" | 180 lbs | ATH Starkville | 2024 State MS both were catching a few passes to keep the chains moving for their offense. Trey Petty Trey Petty 6'1" | 190 lbs | QB Starkville | 2024 State MS would take it in for both of their scores in the second quarter.
Louisville has shown time and time again they can score fast. That’s what they needed to do in order to go into the half with a seven point deficit instead of fourteen. Hunt had his team rolling and he made a nice scramble to get them into the endzone. Key Jackson would get at quarterback and take it in from two yards out. The PAT was good and at half-time the we had a score of 14-7 with Starkville having the lead.
Starkville would get the ball to start the second half and they couldn’t get anything going. That Louisville defense was very tenacious yesterday. Kendon Sanders Kendon Sanders 5'9" | 200 lbs | LB Louisville | 2024 State MS was laying the wood. Corxavier Coleman made a lot of tackles and Laterrius Haynes was doing his thing.
Jaden Triplett popped off a fifty nine yard touchdown run. The PAT was no good and the score was 14-13.
Trey Petty Trey Petty 6'1" | 190 lbs | QB Starkville | 2024 State MS was trying to go midfield with a pass and Laterrius Haynes stepped in with the interception which lead to his second pick six of the season. Louisville’s fans were in the stands going crazy. The PAT was good and now the score was 20-14 in Starkville’s favor.
Louisville made a big stop, but Ethan Pulliam made a great punt and it pinned Louisville deep in their own territory. They didn’t get anything going and after a short punt Starkville had great field position.
They immediately went to the ground with Courtland Cooper. After a few hard runs he was into the endzone for six. The PAT was good and they were up 21-20.
This was a very good game. In my opinion the player of the game was punter Ethan Pulliam. He was on point all night.
