Continue ReadingLast week we had on of the top games of the 2022 season. Both teams are phenomenal this season. Creighton Prep had a rough start. They lost to Bellevue West and Omaha Westside. After that the Junior Jays defeated Millard North. The Jays were ready to slay the Dragons. Gretna went off in their first two games. against Burke and Omaha Central. Gretna outscore its first two opponents 100-0. The Dragons haven’t been tested yet and the Bluejays had been through the gauntlet.
Recap
The game started off quick with a Gretna recovering a fumble and scoring a field goal. After that Creighton Prep became the first team to score against the Dragon Defense going up 7-3. Gretna snapped back with another field goal by the end of the 1st quarter, 7-6 being the final score of the first quarter. The second quarter was full of defense. Both teams held each other close. CharMar Brown CharMar Brown 6'0" | 200 lbs | RB Creighton Prep | 2023 State NE would take it to the house for a huge TD right before halftime to get the Junior Jays up 13-6 by halftime. At the Start of the 3rd Gretna would drive down and score with a Zane Flores Zane Flores 6'3" | 190 lbs | QB Gretna | 2023 State NE pass to Tyson Boganowski Tyson Boganowski 5'10" | 170 lbs | WR Gretna | 2023 State NE to tie it up 13-13. On the next drive Prep would drive down and get stuffed on 4th down. At the end of the third the game was still tied. Gretna would take their second lead on the day with another field goal now going up 13-16. Gretna’s Alex Runge Alex Runge 5'10" | 185 lbs | DB Gretna | 2024 State NE would get a huge stop with an amazing inception.
Player Standouts
Brown is the backbone of Creighton Prep’s offense and he dominated Gretna’s Defense. He had 18 carries for 214 total yards averaging 11.9 yards a carry and both of Preps TD’s. Watch out for him the rest of this season he’s a key player against every team.
Zach McLeay
Zach lead the Junior Jays on defense holding strong. He had 23 tackles 16 assists and 7 solo. Him and the rest of the Jays defense held the might Gretna offense from scoring many touchdowns and forcing them to settle for 3.
Zane is someone who gets a lot of talk because of his skills. He has dominated this season and last season and he continues to dominate. Zane had 30 out of 38 completions racking up 206 yards and a touchdown. Flores is always entertaining and fun to watch.
Weber had 22 carries during hte game and he has really developed into the role as the main running back for Gretna. On his 22 carries Weber had 152 yards on the ground averaging 6.9 yards per carry.
