Perry 19 | Spring Valley (NV) 14

Perry gets the week 1 win in new head coach Joe Ortiz's Perry debut over an out of state opponent. Perry comes off a 3-8 season from a year ago, but the culture over there has seemed to taken a massive upward trajectory in the short time coach Ortiz has been there. They have a handful of prospects who could and should continue to make some noise this season, which includes the Air Force DE commit [player_tooltip player_id='110146' first='Aiden' last='Herring']. Overall, a very impressive week 1 win for a rising program in Arizona's toughest division.

Notre Dame Prep 48 | Horizon 21

Notre Dame Prep went over to the defending 5A champs and came out with a week 1 dub, as numerous new faces for NDP were able to step up and show out in their new roles. [player_tooltip player_id='115517' first='Noah' last='Trigueros'] slung for 5 TD's in his debut as a starter and did so in a tough environment. Horizon is still a team to watch in 5A, as they have some highly productive prospects which includes WR [player_tooltip player_id='211752' first='Cole' last='Linyard']. Notre Dame Prep will play Ironwod next week and will look to make it 2-0.

Apollo 48 | Glendale 42

Apollo hosted an exlosive Glendale squad and was able to shock the state and win week 1 in a shootout without their QB1. Apollo's [player_tooltip player_id='217567' first='Adam' last='Mohammed'] who normally serves as the speedy RB stepped into the QB1 role and absolutely dominated. They touted him with a worhorse type of night feeding him the rock 29 times for 307 yards and 6 TD's, and he also threw for 155 yards and a TD giving him a 7 TD night. Glendale is no push over by any means, QB Zecheriah Owens has showcased strong ability to become a D1 prospect but Apollo stepped up and shocked the state Friday night.

Goldwater 49 | Deer Valley 7

Goldwater has historically stuggled in the past, but they're surely not off to a struggle to start 2022 as they come out of week 1 with a blowout win over Deer valley. [player_tooltip player_id='364216' first='Markhi' last='McKinnon'] had a big night for Goldwater rushing for 179 yards and 2 TD's on 18 carries, as did Osyruss Rodriguez with his 98 yard 3 TD night. Goldwater's rushing attack was lights out Friday night while their defense was able to play lights out as well to aid in that week 1 blowout.

Camp Verde 48 | Scottsdale Prep 34

Camp Verde has been absolutely rolling under new head coach Aaron Gronwald and QB Tyson Buckley. They played a 2A playoff team from a year ago and were the undrdog heading into the matchup, and are now starting to turn some heads in 2A with that 2-0 start. Buckley threw for 364 yards and 5 TD's to lead Camp verde to a shootout win and will have a target on his back the rest of the season as he continues to dice up defenses with his arm.
