In this article, we’ll take a look at a senior QB in Canyon who is putting up some impressive numbers, a running back in Navasota who ran for 223 yards in the season opener, and an offensive lineman in Lancaster who deserves some recruiting attention.
QB Derrek Clements – 6’4″ 220 / Canyon HS — @Derrek_Clements
Clements is the prototypical quarterback every program is looking for. Great size, solid arm strength, and very accurate. One look at the first play on his highlight tape and you’ll see some things that make this talented prospect stand out from the rest. No offers yet, but I expect that to change as the season goes on.
RB Deontray Scott – 6’2″ 190 / Navasota HS — @DeontrayScott3
Scott started the season with a bang, rushing for over 200 yards and four touchdowns – and he hasn’t slowed down a bit. It’s shocking to me that a running back of his size, speed, and overall skillset remains without an offer, but if he keeps running the way he is, expect offers to start coming in. He runs with great vision, contact balance, and just has a nose for the end zone.
WR Keyoni Morrison – 6’2″ 160 / Rock Hill HS — @KeyoniMorrison
Impressive vertical speed is what stands out about Morrison. It’s tough to evaluate high school receivers, since they never face bump-and-run coverage and run nothing but go routes and skinny posts against 10 yards of cushion, but I like what I see from the senior. Will be a great pickup for a smaller program looking for a consistent deep threat.
RB Zander Brown – 5’8″ 185 / Cy Park HS — @ZanderB_9
Brown is a tough running back who may be small in size, but certainly gives maximum effort on gameday. He’s a quick, one-cut, downhill runner who would be a perfect addition to a smaller program looking for a change-of-pace back that can bring another dimension to an offense.
G Tank Chatmon – 6’3″ 260 / Lancaster HS — @TankChatmon1
Chatmon is a blue collar, tough-nosed interior lineman who has starter potential for a smaller program. He plays with a mean streak, and displays impressive footwork for a guy his size. He gets a good punch at the point of attack and is able to push defensive tackles backward in the run game. Solid as a pass protector as well.
