There are a few 4A teams that are getting off to a good start. We all know it is too early to tell, but history already tells us which teams have the chance to be in the mix. Those teams have started out this season with a bang. Some have even taken down bigger schools.

1. Louisville

Louisville showed us who they are the first week of the year. These guys are loaded. It doesn't take long to see what you got when Louisville possesses a good team. They are flying to the football and their offense knows how to move the football. They defeated the 8th ranked 5A West Point Greenwave in the first week. These guys are on the roll and I feel sorry for the teams that have to face them in 4A.

Their offense is very explosive and led by a sophomore by the name of Xavier Hunt. He is a guy that can hurt you with his feet or legs. They have Jaden Triplett, Jykevious Goss and freshman [player_tooltip player_id='402110' first='Xzarion' last='Haynes'] who will be toting the ball out of the back field. Key Jackson, Swahili Slaughter and a lot more can play the receiver position. Yes these guys have an offense that is loaded. What they have the ability to do on that side of the football is going to shock 4A this season. The bad thing about us that they are so young.

Their defense is nasty. [player_tooltip player_id='340743' first='Gabriel' last='Moore'] is manning the defensive line. They have some mean LBs that don't mind coming up hitting you across the top of your head. Laterrius Haynes can play LB or DB. His game is nasty. They have Kenneth Hill, [player_tooltip player_id='340862' first='Christavious' last='Savior'] and Semaj Knowles who are the top guys in the secondary. This team is very scary this year and they are coming extra hard. I wouldn't be surprised if they are playing in the state championship this season.

2. Itawamba AHS

Itawamba is off to a roll this year. Coach Hoots has these guys ready to play ball. They are doing well on both sides and they have some guys who don't mind playing with heart. Most people are wanting to see a Louisville play these guys for the North Half this season. That would be a great thing to see.

Their offense is led by Ty Davis. He is a guy that knows how to move the ball on offense. A pocket passer who will play D1 football one day. He is one of the leaders of this offense that gets the job done. [player_tooltip player_id='107295' first='Isaac' last='Smith'] is one of the top DBs in the nation, but for the first two weeks this year he has been holding it down on offense as well. Goes to show you how aggressive this young man is.

Layth Holiday likes to make his presence known on defense. Him and [player_tooltip player_id='107295' first='Isaac' last='Smith'] will be some guys that hold their secondary down all season. Isaac packs a mean punch every time he makes contact with somebody. They also have a 2025 LB by the name of [player_tooltip player_id='379881' first='Bryson' last='Walters'] who I'm excited to go see play. This kid is an absolute beast and he knows how to get the job done at his position.

3. Columbia

A lot of people said that Columbia would fall off this season. I think that we see that isn't true at all. These guys are back ready to defend their state title from last year. They have started their 2022 season undefeated. Let's see what these guys have in store.

They have their championship QB from last season back this year. That is always a good thing when you are trying to get back to a state championship. It's always good to be able to say that you have your QB back. Their running game is going to remain the same. They like to push the football on the ground with their guys. That will help them keep a steady pace on offense this season.

Their defense is still stingy like they were last season. These guys fly to the football and they know how to play as an unit. Their secondary has a few players that know how to play. They have some young guys on their defense and that is what scares me about them. I do think they will be back for the South Half championship so I will be sure to keep an eye on this team this year.

4. Clarksdale

Clarksdale to a very tough second round loss at home last November to the Louisville Wildcats. I don't think they are happy about that. The only history these two teams have with each other are playoff games. Clarksdale probably used that as their motivation this whole off-season. It isn't a bad thing to do so. These guys will be playing with a chip on their shoulder all year. That won't be good for their opponents.

Their offense is will be led by [player_tooltip player_id='107043' first='Kelley' last='Jones']. A very dynamic ATH who is committed to Mississippi State. He is going to lead an offense who will be doing a lot of running the football. This team will break a lot of teams down doing what they have been known to do over the years. That would be being very aggressive.

On defense they like to do the same thing every other team does. They know how to get after the football. These guys do not play around. [player_tooltip player_id='107043' first='Kelley' last='Jones'] is a man child who plays on both sides of the football and does it a high level. [player_tooltip player_id='364337' first='Patrick' last='Broomfield'] holds down things at his cornerback position. These guys have a chance to make a deep push in the playoffs.

5. Senatobia

They still have [player_tooltip player_id='340746' first='JaBrysten' last='Abram'] is absolutely amazing and gives Senatobia a chance every week. This team has a new coach this year and these guys have a very bad taste in their mouth as well. They loss by one point to the Columbia Wildcats last season. That is going to make them play hard every week this year. They won't be messing around with any team.

There are a few 4A teams that are getting off to a good start. We all know it is too early to tell, but history already tells us which teams have the chance to be in the mix. Those teams have started out this season with a bang. Some have even taken down bigger schools.
