White, a junior, is in his second season being the starting quarterback. He is 6′, 245 pounds and plays the quarterback position like you would think a linebacker would. He doesn’t shy away from contact and uses his size to run over and past defenders.
He accounted for 367 yards of total offense and had a hand in five of the six Bulldogs touchdowns as Class 3A #2 Camden opened the regular season with a convincing 42-13 victory over Class 4A #9 Myrtle Beach.
“I’m the quarterback for the high school but look at me,” White said. “I’m a linebacker. I’m not afraid to get hit as weird as that might sound. I was excited to get out here and run the ball and show people what I can do.”
White connected with Aidan Heriot Aidan Heriot 6'2" | 180 lbs | WR Camden | 2024 State SC on touchdown passes of 31 and 44 yards and added a 16-yard scoring pass to Cortez Lane Cortez Lane 5'11" | 170 lbs | RB Cardinal Newman | 2024 State SC while rushing for touchdowns from 14 and 10 yards out.
“We have a new offensive coordinator and right after that state game, I started learning the new plays and putting my mind to it,” White said. “All the skill players are juniors like me. We’ve been playing together our whole lives.”
White has a talented receiving corps in Heriot, Lane and JaQuarius Mayrant. They helped White throw for 230 yards on 13-of-24 passing. All three of the wide outs are juniors as is starting running back Averee Hickmon, who finished with 74 yards rushing and a 5-yard touchdown.
Much has been written about the Bulldogs defensive line but linebacker Zack Earle along with cornerbacks Dylan Locklear and Jo Jo Crim played big roles against the Seahawks.
“They said they dropped three picks. I told them we have to get better than that,” Camden coach Brian Rimpf said. “They are less experienced than some of our other positions so it was good for them to get action against a very good aerial team with good receivers.
Myrtle Beach was missing starting quarterback Tre Dunn, but junior backup Wyatt Cannon didn’t do anything to hurt his team in the form of turnovers. He threw for 131 yards and a 17-yard touchdown to John Simmons John Simmons 6'3" | 200 lbs | WR Myrtle Beach | 2025 State SC .
Jason Nash ended with eight catches for 77 yards. Defensively, linebacker Ashton McSwain manned the middle well and was crucial in getting guys lined up in the right spot several times. He’s a little undersized but plays with a moxie that will make him a huge factor for Myrtle Beach.
“We’re young and inexperienced,” Myrtle Beach coach Mickey Wilson said. “We do some really good things at times and then at times we do things that make you scratch your head a little bit.”
