But after that point, outside of a second quarter lull, it was Indian Land’s run game which included a 20-play drive and a stout defense that led to a 28-0 shut out of Timberland on Friday night.
Indian Land coach Adam Hastings was proud of his team for overcoming the lulls at halftime and playing cleaner in the second half.
“At halftime, sometimes it’s hard for young teams, and we are a young team to kind of have that aspect of how do you handle success? How do you build off of it and then how do you handle when you’re playing successful and then all of the sudden, something doesn’t go your way so I thought our guys came back in the second half and really had an early spark thanks to one of our older guys who has been making plays the last two years. And that spark really propelled us out,” Indian Land coach Adam Hastings said.
Brennon Harris opened the scoring with a long run down the right sideline to make it 7-0 with 8:07 to play in the first quarter.
Jaden Peoples stood out to us with his ability to make catches on the quick throws and screens from the first snap. He was physical in his downfield runs and was special to watch once he got into the open field. He had a touchdown late in the first quarter, increasing the Warriors lead to 14-0 with 4:07 to play.
The highlight play of the night for Timberland came from Amir Millegan on a 4th and 17 on a draw play. But the Wolves were unable to get anything out of it on the goal line due to a mishandled snap right before halftime.
Myles Stinson (pictured above) is a guy you’ll want to keep your eye on as the season progresses. He is a physical back, running in between the tackles and is shifty once he gets into space. He scored two touchdowns on direct snaps in the first and fourth quarter. He also had a pick six at defensive back to kick off the third quarter, which put the game away.
“He’s just one of those guys … what else can he do? We really rely on him a lot. There’s a reason why he’s a two time captain. There’s a reason why he’s a leader in our offseason and you can see it transpire in how he plays,” Hastings said.
