The Rams rolled into Greer, set a pair of school records, and left with a 62-14 win over the Yellow Jackets, the program’s first-ever victory in the series.
It all started with Bennett Judy Bennett Judy 6'3" | 195 lbs | QB Hillcrest | 2023 State SC . The Rams’ QB threw a 66-yard TD to Avery McFadden Avery McFadden 5'10" | 175 lbs | WR Hillcrest | 2024 State SC on the second play from scrimmage, getting Hillcrest on the board in just 28 seconds. After a Greer fumble, he hit Adarin Mayberry from 35 yards out with just under three minutes gone in the game, and the Rams kept the hammer down the rest of the way.
Judy threw for 456 yards, breaking his own school record in the process, and six TDs, one shy of the school mark. McFadden had 241 receiving yards, also a school-best, and TDs of 66, 81, and 24 yards.
“We knew our coaching staff was giving us a really great game plan all week,” Judy said. “Our defense played great, like we knew they would. I just got the ball in Avery’s hands, and he made something happen.”
McFadden said the school records are nice to have, but they’re just byproducts of what the Rams are working toward.
“It means a lot,” he said. “But really, it’s just the beginning. I’m happy, because it’s the moment of. But we want to win state. That’s our main goal, and that’s a good way to get there, breaking records every week.”
Other standouts from Friday’s game included:
Mayberry showed a ton of speed and made the most of his opportunities. Two of his three catches went for TDs, as he accounted for 114 yards to go with the two scores. His best catch of the night, though, was the one he didn’t score on. Mayberry beat a defender deep, and the defender reached out and grabbed him, dragging him down and seemingly accepting the interference penalty that was coming. Mayberry didn’t give Greer the option. He made the falling, one-handed catch anyway, setting up another Hillcrest score.
Richard Hollingsworth was a force for the Rams defensively. He finished with five tackles, a sack, two tackles for loss, and was disruptive all night.
BJ Jones got on the scoreboard again, and neither of his TDs this season has been on an offensive play. Jones, who ran back a kick in Week 0, picked off a pass and took it 68 yards for a score on the first drive of the second half. Jones finished with four total tackles and a tackle for loss to go with the pick-6.
Greer’s young offensive standouts showed their flash again. LaDainnian Martin LaDainnian Martin 5'10" | 175 lbs | RB JL Mann | 2025 State SC rushed for 106 yards and a score. Kaden Rowland showed flashes of electric play at QB, throwing for 175 yards and keeping several plays alive with his legs. And junior Chase Byrd had three catches for 107 yards, including a long gain that set up Greer’s first score.
