“I didn’t get to see him in the Spring, because he was hurt and he was running track,” Curtis said. “We didn’t use him much in the preseason because we wanted to keep him healthy.”
Secret’s out, it seems.
Foster rushed for 306 yards and three TDs as Dorman rolled over Greenville 53-28, getting Curtis’ tenure at Dorman off to a 1-0 start.
“I think he’s pretty good,” Curtis said with a laugh.
He sure was on Friday. Foster had TD runs of 73, 35, and 56 yards, averaged 15.3 yards per carry, and ran roughshod over the Red Raiders’ defense as he eclipsed the 300-yard mark, something he’s had his sights on.
“I had 290-something last year, and I really wanted that 300,” he said. “Tonight, I got it.”
He also earned himself what might be a heavier workload.
“I love that kid,” Curtis said. “Holy moly. He’s gonna tote the rock a lot for us this year. A lot.”
Foster’s fine with that. He’s fine if it falls to someone else, too. He just wants to win. In fact, he’s looking for a way to get teammate Kendell Lewis into the end zone. Lewis had nine carries for 65 yards, but Foster wants to see him score.
“When I’m tired, he’s coming in,” Foster said. “We break a long run, he’s coming in. It’s like we’re interchangeable. I love that guy. I want him to score. Next game, I want him in the end zone. I want him to do what I just did.”
That’s a scary prospect for opponents.
On a night when it would be easy to lose players in the shuffle of 521 offensive yards and 53 points, DJ Porter did plenty to stand out for Dorman. He opened the scoring by tossing a 15-yard TD to Cason Gilliam, then scored one himself when he streaked past the Greenville defense and hauled in a 74-yard strike from Hudson Talley. Porter finished with two offensive touches, two touchdowns, and 89 total yards.
Johnathan Frazier and Dyquan Nesbitt both had huge defensive nights for the Cavaliers. Frazer had 14 total tackles, including 10 solo stops, and 1.5 tackles for loss. He also got on the scoreboard, pouncing on a blocked punt in the end zone to start Dorman’s second-half scoring. Nesbitt had four tackles, two tackles for loss, two sacks, and forced a fumble that led to a Dorman touchdown and changed the momentum of the game.
Greenville’s receiving corps was a bright spot for the Red Raiders. Luke Krall, Mazeo Bennett Mazeo Bennett 6'0" | 170 lbs | ATH Greenville | 2024 State SC , and Tyler Brown Tyler Brown 6'0" | 160 lbs | WR Greenville | 2023 State SC combined for 18 catches, 193 yards, and two TDs. Krall’s TD opened the scoring for Greenville and was a dandy, as he hauled in a strike from Jordan Sink, tapping one toe just inside the end line for the score.
