They picked up their second road win in as many games Friday in a 34-22 victory at Hilton Head Prep. Let’s break down the game and the athletes that stood out on both sides.
Beaufort Academy’s offense relies on the run game, and both Jaxen Porter and Devonte Green Devonte Green 6'0" | 175 lbs | ATH Beaufort Academy | 2024 SC were dominant throughout. Porter led the show with his quick legs and power, rushing for 124 yards on 14 carries with three touchdowns. An all-effort player who can outduel anyone with his hustle, Porter has become one of the most underrated players in all of SCISA. Braydon Dineen delivered a dynamite game both at quarterback and safety, throwing a 54-yard strike to Te’Shaun Heyward and punishing the opposition with his tenacious play on defense. The Eagles neutralized Hilton Head Prep running back Loncelle Daley thanks to terrific work from Alex Williams who picked up right where he left off after recording a scoop-and-score and back-to-back game-clinching sacks last week. Gavin Midyette also impressed defensively for the Eagles, making key stops throughout the contest and putting himself in the best positions to make plays on the football. Midyette stepped in front of Prep wideout AJ Barger to swat the ball away and deny the Dolphins a touchdown on fourth and goal.
Despite the 0-2 start, Hilton Head Prep has a lot to be optimistic about in head coach Dustin Ethridge’s first home game. Ethridge played two quarterbacks in Jason Braymiller and Wyatt Harmer and saw strong progress with both signal callers. Harmer shined in the passing game, connecting with Barger for a 75-yard gain on a beautifully thrown deep ball down the right sideline before adding a touchdown pass to the same target. Braymiller made some quality plays on the ground, evading a group of BA tacklers for a 15-yard touchdown scamper. And it was the best game we may have seen from AJ Barger, who was targeted early and often on his way to 110 receiving yards and a touchdown. Barger has excellent hands and has already developed a strong rapport with Harmer. Sean Graham put together a strong performance at linebacker, using his stellar frame and hustle to wrap up key tackles and combat a dangerous Beaufort Academy rushing attack.
