However, once things got started, a bunch of guys turned in performances worthy of game balls. Here’s a look at some from Spartanburg and Laurens Counties.
Raheim Jeter Raheim Jeter 6'3" | 220 lbs | QB Spartanburg | 2023 State SC , Spartanburg
The Vikings stood toe-to-toe with the state’s long-running heavyweight and didn’t blink Spartanburg fell 27-25 to Dutch Fork on a last-second field goal, but Jeter very nearly helped engineer the upset. He threw for 248 yards and three TDs, including a 9-yard pass to Andrew Dantin with 4:44 to play that put the Vikings on top. He rushed for another score.
Kendell Lewis, Dorman
Lewis churned up a bunch of rugged yards for Dorman on the road at North Augusta on Friday, rushing for 118 yards on just 12 carries, averaging more than nine yards per rush. He found the end zone in the passing game, hauling in an 84-yarder for a TD to put the game away later. And, he added a tackle on defense.
Kamajay Bracket-Brannon, Broome
Broome’s electric QB continued to open eyes on Friday. In a big win over Chesnee, Brackett-Brannon helmed an offense that racked up nearly 500 total yards. He threw for 168 yards and two scores, and rushed for 152 yards and two more TDs, averaging 11.8 yards per carry.
Colton Link, Landrum
Link ran for 175 yards and three touchdowns on 10 carries in Landrum’s season-opening win over Berea.
Chris Foster Chris Foster 6'0" | 205 lbs | DL Byrnes | 2024 State SC , Byrnes
Foster helped lead a Byrnes defense that held Chapman to fewer than 100 yards of total offense. He had six tackles, a sack, and a tackle for loss in the Rebels’ win.
Jishun Copeland, Clinton
Copeland ran for 147 yards and two scores as Clinton thumped Laurens in the County Rivalry. Copeland’s 24 yards-per-carry average was helped by a 99-yard touchdown scamper, as he compiled his big night on just six carries.
