Talk about a statement performance in your first game back. After missing the better part of last season with a torn ACL, Dietrich Shuford Dietrich Shuford 5’9″ | 155 lbs | QB Beaufort Academy | 2025 SC dazzled out on the field last Saturday, completing 14 of 19 passes for a whopping 445 yards and seven touchdowns in a victory over SCISA 4A Trinity Collegiate. The sophomore looked as good as ever, displaying his terrific poise and accuracy under center in his first start in almost a full year. If Shuford keeps this up, he should be shredding opposing defenses all season long as he looks to lead the Rebels to their fifth straight 1A title.
Highlights
Darrion Perry
Darrion Perry
The explosive May River senior started his season with a monster night Thursday. Darrion Perry brought his hustle to all phases of the game against New Hampstead, rushing for 156 yards and three touchdowns on just nine carries. He was vicious on the defensive side of the ball and used his high motor to make 11 tackles. And he was a game-wrecker on special teams, blocking two punts and even recovering an onside kick. His effort was second to none for the Sharks, and he should be a reliable piece for Rodney Summers wherever he is needed this season.
Braydon Dineen
Braydon Dineen
Braydon Dineen has turned into a heck of a leader for the Beaufort Academy Eagles. The senior dominated with his arms and his legs and was very efficient when his number was called. He completed five of seven passes for 184 yards and two touchdowns while adding 70 rushing yards on just seven carries. A terrific competitor who can outhustle anyone on the field, Dineen has grown into an excellent dual-threat quarterback with the vision and drive to lead his Eagle squad towards a special season.
It was a complete effort by everyone on Bluffton’s roster, but the player that impressed the most was on the defensive side. Junior linebacker

was dialed in during Bluffton’s season-opening win over Beach (GA). His hustle on the field was unmatched under the lights, racing to the ball-carrier on the sidelines to make a tackle and save a touchdown. He reads plays like a veteran and has excellent quickness off the snap. Curry is a rising star in Class 4A and should be in line for an outstanding junior year.

Owen Bayes
Owen Bayes
He’s still competing for the starting job with Jackson Bibee, but Owen Bayes made a heck of a case to take the top spot for Hilton Head. The junior signal-caller was efficient and delivered in the clutch moments for the Seahawks, completing 70 percent of his passes for 141 yards and a pair of touchdowns in a home victory over Battery Creek. He knows how to excel out of the pocket and can improvise when he needs to in order to extend drives. He’s worked hard over the offseason and should have a strong shot at becoming the starter of choice for BJ Payne.
The top-ranked quarterback in the South Carolina junior class started his season with another masterful performance on Saturday.

showed some remarkable speed and balance with his legs while lighting it up in the passing game in a dominant win over St. John’s. Scott can throw the deep ball with outstanding precision and is dangerous when he gets a running lane, making it a tall task for any area defense to slow him down. Expect to see a lot more dazzling plays from Scott this year on a James Island team that looks like the frontrunner for the Region 7-4A title.
