Roger Saleapaga Roger Saleapaga 6'4" | 195 lbs | TE Orem | 2024 State UT || TE || 6’4 || 195 || Orem High School || 2024
Saleapaga is a huge mismatch for any defense as one of the most athletic tight ends in the state and was a problem for Desert Pines all night. The 6’5 pass catcher scored all three of Orem’s touchdowns and decimated the Jaguars for 195 yards. Saleapaga came up clutch in the fourth quarter scoring two touchdowns in the final frame. His combination of size, speed, and strength is a tough cover for any defensive back. Saleapaga has excellent hands, and once he secures, the ball is rarely taken down by the first or even second tackler. Orem will have a chance against anyone in 5A because of playmakers like Slapaga.
Daxton Sumko || RB || 5’10 || 195 || Box Elder High School || 2024
Sumko leads the state in rushing yards and touchdowns through two weeks. The 5’10 back has elite vision and never misses a cut-back lane. He remains patient for holes to open; once they do, he explodes through them. Sumko possesses elite footwork, allowing him to navigate the trenches and open field easily. He follows his blockers as well as any back in the state, leading to first down after first down. The shifty back doesn’t get brought down by arm tackles and fights for every yard. Once Sumko breaks off a big run, he rarely gets caught from behind, and as the focal point of Box Elders offense is in for a big year.
Quezon Villa Quezon Villa 6'1" | 205 lbs | ATH Timpview | 2024 State UT || QB || 6’0 || 190 || Timpview High School || 2024
Timpview has been rolling to start the season, and Villa’s play has been a huge reason why. After a strong week, one performance in the Thunderbird’s season-opening win over Lone Peak Villa threw four touchdowns vs. Harriman. The 6’0 quarterback shows excellent poise in the pocket and does a good job giving his receivers a chance to make plays. He displays good accuracy on intermediate throws and hits his receivers as soon as they turn around on short routes. Villa isn’t afraid to tuck it and run for the tough yards if no one is open. He also possesses the strength and agility to break free of tackles making sure he doesn’t go down on first contact, even in the pocket.
Cole Christensen Cole Christensen 5'9" | 165 lbs | WR Lone Peak | 2023 State UT || WR || 5’9 || 165 || Lone Peak High School || 2023
Christensen and Lone Peak traveled to California to take on the Bishop Alemany Warriors and The 5’9 receiver shined under the lights. The senior returned a punt for a touchdown and scored two more touchdowns through the air to help the Knights take their second straight game over the Warriors in two years. Christensen is a phenomenal route runner who excels at changing direction and getting in and out of his breaks. In addition, he’s tough to bring down as one of the shiftiest players in the state. Christensen can beat defensive backs at any level of the field and makes fantastic plays look routine.
