Which defensive backs made big jumps in the latest update?
Prep Redzone breaks it all down below…
Zion Ferguson Zion Ferguson 6'0" | 165 lbs | DB Grayson | 2024 State GA – CB – Grayson
One of the top young defensive backs in Gwinnett County, Ferguson is one of the top cover-corners across the state for the 2024 class. His length, quickness, and natural cover skills made him the newest No. 34 prospect in the state and the No. 8 overall DB. He has a long frame at 5-foot-11 170-pounds, he’s athletic, and went up against some of the best receivers in the state in 7A. As a sophomore last year, Ferguson showed he can handle older receivers and proved why he holds a number of impressive D1 offers. He did a good job of staying on the receivers hip, and when the ball is in the air, he knows how to defend and knock it away. Ferguson ended the year on a strong note and is only scratching the surface of his potential. He’s one of the top CB prospects in a loaded group in Georgia, and we expect him to have a giant junior season for a very talented Grayson defense.
Jalyn Crawford Jalyn Crawford 6'1" | 165 lbs | DB Parkview | 2024 State GA – Parkview
One of the fastest-rising DBs across Georgia, Crawford is an excellent defensive back in coverage who knows how to make a play on the football. He’s a silky-smooth cornerback with length at 6-foot-0 170-pounds, and he hold a number of different D1 offers at the moment. He closes really well on receivers, he’s technically sound, shows great footwork, and does a great job of reading the quarterback, allowing him to move up 9 spots in the newest update. Crawford is now the No. 28 spot overall in the 2024 class and the No. 6 DB prospect. If the receiver is lucky enough to get a step on him or get behind him at all, Crawford does a good job of closing well at the last minute and breaking up the pass. Crawford broke up 9 passes last fall as a sophomore, playing against some tough 7A competition each week. He has a very bright future at the collegiate level, and that’s why his ranking has continued to climb this year.
Jivan Baly Jivan Baly 6'0" | 170 lbs | DB Meadowcreek | 2024 State GA – Meadowcreek
Jumping from No. 83 overall to No. 59 overall, Baly is a tough, instinctive defensive back out of Meadowcreek. The Atlanta native has had a nice sophomore season, showing he can lockdown receivers on the outside. He has a nice frame for someone his age at 6-foot-1 170-pounds and appears to be fundamentally sound on an island by himself. He’s racked up over 30 tackles last season, proving he can bring a physical presence as well. He’s a cover-corner on the rise and he plays the ball well in the air. He can run step for step with just about any receiver lined up against him and is playing for an excellent staff looking to take Meadowcreek to the next level. He reads the quarterback well and reacts quickly as the play develops. Baly can also use the sideline well in coverage and appeared to play better and better as the season went along as a sophomore. Look for more offers to come his way with a strong junior season in 2022.
Tyshun White Tyshun White 6'0" | 175 lbs | DB Buford | 2024 State GA “Ty” – Buford
Another standout Buford Wolves defender to know, White is a hard-hitting safety with range who is started to see his recruitment take off this year. Playing on a loaded Buford defense, White is one of many 2024 prospects on the roster expected to have a giant junior season. The 6-foot-0 185-pounder knows how to strike, he’s instinctive, and covers a lot of ground in coverage and getting after the ball-carrier. His natural athleticism and versatility also allows him to help on special teams. He made a lot of plays for a state-championship Buford team as a sophomore and he should see more offers come his way sooner than later. White made a massive jump in the latest update and now comes in as the No. 63 overall player in the state for the 2024 class.
