This game actually took place back on August 13, but it was a performance to remember from Dietrich Shuford Dietrich Shuford 5’9″ | 155 lbs | QB Beaufort Academy | 2025 SC . The Thomas Heyward quarterback put on a show in his first game back from an ACL injury, throwing for an incredible 445 yards on 14-of-19 passing and seven touchdowns in a victory over Trinity Collegiate. It was a dream-like performance in his first game back, and his throws and mechanics looked as spectacular as ever. Just a sophomore at Thomas Heyward, Shuford has all the skills and intangibles for a memorable career ahead as he looks to keep the Rebels’ 1A dynasty going.
Highlights
Tyshon Mansell
Tyshon Mansell
He became a sensation under center last year for Heyward, but this time Tyshon Mansell has taken his new role at wide receiver by storm. In his first game back at wideout, Mansell went off for an insane 282 receiving yards and six touchdowns, dominating the Trinity Collegiate secondary all night long. Mansell is an athletic playmaker with the height, quickness, and agility to excel at the SCISA level. The connection between Shuford and Mansell has been unstoppable so far, and it could certainly stay that way throughout the rest of the year.
Cole Davis
Cole Davis
In what may have been one of the most shocking results of the weekend, Cole Davis and the Colleton Prep War Hawks took down a talented Florence Christian team on Friday night. Davis was the spark to make it happen at quarterback, using his powerful legs to post 137 rushing yards and three touchdowns while adding 81 passing yards. After primarily serving as the team’s running back last year, Davis is blossoming at quarterback and ran the offense beautifully from start to finish. A tough runner to bring down who is growing his skills at quarterback, Davis and the War Hawks are worth watching in SCISA 2A this season.
Hayden Redders
Hayden Redders
The senior veteran made a splash for St. John’s Christian in the opener, finding the end zone four times on the day to defeat The King’s Academy. Hayden Redders racked up 169 all-purpose yards and put his stellar athleticism on notice to earn yards after the catch. He also excelled on the defensive side at safety, feasting with eight tackles including a sack. With the height and the verticality to make tough catches combined with the high energy on defense, Redders should be a busy and effective player for the Cavaliers this season.
Gatlin Kimbro
Gatlin Kimbro
After a memorable 2021 season for the Thomas Sumter Generals, senior Gatlin Kimbro got the new year started with a terrific showing to beat Clarendon Hall. Kimbro made impacts on both sides of the ball, including a 10-tackle outing on defense. The senior led his team in receiving yards last year and has the quickness and route running to excel as the top target for a Thomas Sumter team looking to challenge for a deep SCISA 2A playoff run.
