North Farmington @ Groves

This is a battle between an OAA White and OAA Blue team, who both want to get their programs back on track. In 2020, both teams were above the .500 mark and looked like high-rising programs soon to compete for a State Championship. Then last season happened to both teams. Groves went 2-7 after scandal disqualified them from the 2020 playoffs, and North Farmington went 3-6 after starting the season 3-0.

For Groves, they need to embrace the youth on the team and truly find their identity. They have some key pieces like [player_tooltip player_id='190101' first='Zachary' last='Rogers'] and [player_tooltip player_id='407323' first='Alex' last='Koellner'], but it might take some time for the rest of the team to mold together. Hopefully, their highly experienced coaching staff and senior leaders can propel them to a good season and a win against North Farmington.

The Raiders have slightly more experience with some key pieces as well. Most notably, Dual-Threat QB [player_tooltip player_id='253290' first='Ryan' last='Shelby'] has a high ceiling but desperately needs to calm down and make more deliberate choices. If Shelby can polish his game, this can be a dangerous team. They've won 3-straight openers; let's see if they can make it four!

Adams vs. St. Marys

These are two teams that I have as 1st-round playoff exit as a floor and a state championship ceiling. Two very different style teams will be showcased with Adams Veer offense and Man defense against St. Mary's Pro-style offense and their 4-3 Off Ball defense. Extremely interested to see [player_tooltip player_id='241265' first='Parker' last='Picot'] and [player_tooltip player_id='248962' first='Brady' last='Prieskorn'] back on the field, as well as Brayden Ledin, who had a fantastic offseason.

I'll be watching this one via live stream, so expect a detailed postgame report on Friday!

Clarkston @ Davison

It's crazy that one of these teams has to start the season 0-1, and I'm excited to see how these teams come out of the gate.

Clarkston is coming into this season in a unique situation with a new QB and Head Coach, but they still have the makings of an elite squad. [player_tooltip player_id='243468' first='Ethan' last='Clark'] is as good as they come for the RB position, while [player_tooltip player_id='253268' first='Desman' last='Stephens II'] commands the secondary. I expect some regression from this program, but I don't think this will be a bad year for the Wolves.

Davison looks like a possible championship contender. With a scary front seven led by [player_tooltip player_id='80934' first='Carter' last='Herriman'], [player_tooltip player_id='80935' first='Tyler' last='Dosh'], and a secondary led by Zack Pappadakis, they're set on defense. The offense is slightly less predictable this season but still solid with a Senior QB, a terrific RB room, and a good O-Line.
