Today I want to talk about another reason why the Junior season is a crucial time in a players recruitment. On September 1st college coaches will be able to start contacting 2024’s directly. This is the time where players can start building relationships and bonds with coaches that means so much when it comes to where players will end up on a college program’s recruiting board. So it’s of utmost importance that players are answering their phones on Sept. 1 because that could be an offer come their way, or that could be a college coach calling to express their interest in building a relationship. Today I detail more new additions to our rankings.
Archbishop Moeller has seen a return to prominence over the last few years. A big time player for the Crusaders this fall should be DE Jewett Hayes Jewett Hayes 6'4" | 200 lbs | DL Moeller | 2024 State OH . At 6’4 200 pounds Hayes is starting to fill out into what D1 Power 5’s are looking for in a Defensive End. Hayes is twitchy and has great length. He has the acceleration and get-off to not only get to the edge, but get to the QB or run down plays to the opposite side. Hayes has Power 5 offers from Kentucky and Iowa. As Hayes continues to fill out and get stronger I think he will continue to pile up P5 offers.
Withrow high school in Cincinnati is a school that has seen a big turnaround under coach Kali Jones. I’m excited to see what kind of step they can take as a program this fall. One of the players I can’t wait to see is offensive lineman Blake Scriber Blake Scriber 6'3" | 270 lbs | OL Withrow | 2024 State OH . Scriber is 6’3 280 with plenty of room to fill out. In this, his junior year, Scriber is playing right tackle for the Tigers. He plays with a good base and has good feet. Due to his athleticism he has a good pass set. I think due to his feet and functional strength I project him as an offensive guard at the next level. I think if he continues to grow and develop he’s definitely a D1 and maybe even a P5 prospect.
Every offensive coordinator longs to have an offensive weapon that opposing defenses fear. The Arcs of Brush high school have just that in wide receiver Terrance Williams Terrance Williams 5'9" | 150 lbs | WR Brush | 2024 State OH . Williams is a dynamic playmaker. He’s a receiver that you have to respect both in the underneath and vertically. With quick and explosive cuts, he’s able to get open on quick timing routes. The problem for defenses is that he’s able to break off those cuts and get vertical. He does a good job of setting the defensive backs up. Although he’s only 5’9 150 pounds he still has time to grow physically. I really like Williams as a D1 prospect with P5 upside.
When you talk about the Jackson Ironmen you think about a tough blue collar style of football. Cade Wolford Cade Wolford 5'10" | 190 lbs | RB Jackson | 2024 State OH embodies that mentality. Wolford is just a football player, plain and simple. He’s a heck of a running back. He runs with good vision, and has the wiggle to make guys miss. Don’t get confused however he’ll run through you as well, and he has break away speed to boot. He’s often split out as a receiver and with legit 4.5 speed he’s able to stress defenses vertically. This versatility allows the offense to go from one back to empty set without changing personnel. As if he hasn’t done enough he’s played some defensive back as well. Right now I’d project Wolford to the D1 FCS level with G5 upside.
Stebbins high school in Dayton has some skilled players that I’ve talked about. This time, however, I need to talk about one of the big men in the trenches. Jake Wheelock Jake Wheelock 6'4" | 275 lbs | OL Stebbins | 2024 State OH is a 6’4 270 pound offensive tackle for the Indians. Jake has good feet that allow him to take away the speed rush and he has the strength to finish once he locks on. I saw Jake at the University of Akron’s football camp. They had him working inside at guard, which is also where I’d project him too. With his combo of strength and athleticism I really think he could be a very good interior offensive lineman at the college level. He’s already been offered by Akron and Toledo, but I expect that list to grow with a strong junior season.
Going into the 2022 season the Saint Ed’s defense will be anchored by guys like Michael Kilbane Michael Kilbane 6'4" | 240 lbs | DL St. Edward | 2023 State OH and Wyatt Gedeon Wyatt Gedeon 6'2" | 230 lbs | LB St. Edward | 2023 State OH . A player that I look to emerge this fall is DE Troy Regovich Troy Regovich 6'5" | 250 lbs | DL Saint Edward | 2024 State OH . Regovich is a 6’5 255 pound defensive end. I saw him at the Ohio State camp this summer and came away impressed. For his size Troy shows good bend and quick feet. What I like about his game most is his strength. He plays with heavy hands and will be able to set the edge at the next level. I project him to a strong side defensive end who’s strong against the run, but will be able to get to the QB every now and then. Regovich has an offer from the University of Kentucky, but is getting other P5 attention.
