Here are some impressive 2023 defensive backs who saw their Prep Redzone Rankings increase this month…
Jaylen Lilley – Charlton County
A do-it-all back and multi-sport star for Charlton County, Lilley is a powerful back who dominates in the weight room. One of the strongest backs in the state, the South Georgia standout power cleans 300+ pounds and squats over 500-pounds, showing his strong lower body strength. A great overall athlete as well, Lilley is coming off a dominant junior season last fall where he totaled over 1500 total yards, proving why he’s one of the better backs not only in South Georgia, but across the state this fall. He’s worked hard to get into better shape this off-season, and at 195-pounds, Lilley has a chance to have a true breakout season this fall in hopes of landing more D1 offers. That’s just one reason why he earned a new ranking, coming in at No, 105 in the state. He has the strength and power to play somewhere at the next level, and he’s going to prove it during the 2022 season. He’ll be asked to carry the load, and if he can play the way many expect him too, Lilley could help lead Charlton County to a very strong season this fall.
Jordan Louie – Meadowcreek
A new back in Georgia this year, Louie was an easy addition to the new rankings as he’s already a D1 commitment and has a chance to be one of the state’s best this upcoming season. The current West Virginia commitment played in Alabama last season, and now that he’s at Meadowcreek, Louie has a chance to show what he can do against some quality 7A defenses in Gwinnett County. He’s a tough back who breaks tackles, stays on his feet, and gives it his all on every play. He’s also a receiving threat and will bring another element to the Meadowcreek offense. He’s a true big play threat and has a chance to be one of the very best not only in Gwinnett County, but across the state this season. He has good vision, impressive footwork, and will be tough to stop all season, even against tough defenses. He’s a dynamic athlete to know who can make plays in a lot of different ways, and that’s why he comes in at No. No. 49 in the state and the No. 3 overall running back in Georgia.
Marlon Mitchell – Macon County
It’s tough to find a more explosive back in Middle Georgia from the 2023 class than Macon County’s Marlon Mitchell Marlon Mitchell 5'10" | 185 lbs | RB Macon County | 2023 State GA , and that’s a big reason why he was added to the latest Prep Redzone rankings, debuting at No. 146 in the state of Georgia. A smaller but faster back, Mitchell is explosive with the ball in his hands at 5-foot-10 185-pounds. The speedy back knows how to break off a long run on any particular play, giving him a chance to score at any point in the game. When he’s through the line of scrimmage, Mitchell knows how to zig-zag past defenders and does a good job of out-running angles on the outside. He can bust through the line of scrimmage with ease, and if there’s space to run, Mitchell is going to take it the distance. He was one of the most productive backs across the state last year, rushing for 1,712 yards and scoring 20 total touchdowns. He also averaged 8.9 yards per carry, one of the highest in the area. He rushed for at least 100 yards in every game but two last year, and you can’t pull that off at his size without being explosive.
Alan M Jones Jr. – Monroe Area
A tough, physical back with balance right outside of Athens, Jones Jr. makes his Prep Redzone debut in the latest update, coming in at No. 210 in the state for the 2023 class. One of the more versatile backs in the state. Jones Jr. has no problem catching the ball out of the backfield along with running hard between the tackles. One of the most productive backs in the area, Jones Jr was tough to handle all season, rushing for over 1,500 yards last year and 13 touchdowns. He runs hard, breaks a lot of tackles, but moves well for his size at 5-foot-11 180-pounds. He ran wild on defenses last year, but he also showed his versatility and ability to catch passes out of the backfield. He caught 14 passes last year for 300 yards and two touchdowns, proving he can make a big impact both as a runner and receiver. As well as he played last year, expect him to make even more plays this fall, giving him a chance to climb even higher in the next update.
