Because of the excellent amount of submissions from both states, we will be breaking up these articles into multiple parts each week to shed light on all the prospects that shined under the North Dakota football lights. We start out with the first nine Big Dogs of the Weeks of the 2022 season in North Dakota and, where available, evaluate plenty of new tape of prospects we are just getting to know from all over the Roughrider State!
Stat Line: 15/18, 215 passing yards, 3 TDs. 3 carries, 15 rushing yards, 3 TDs (6 total TDs)
Eval: Ben is a new prospect on our 2025 watch list that balled out in Week 1 with 6 total touchdowns for the Velva Aggies. Ben’s freshmen tape shows some solid finished arm strength on his intermediate routes and accurate touch on shorter routes. He shows some excellent poise inside the pocket for his age and can get out of trouble when under pressure and make a competitive throw as he does around just under the 30-second mark of his freshmen tape. By the looks of his tape and early season stats, he’s looking like one of the most developed young QB1s in our North Dakota 2025 class with a lot left to prove over the coming years.

State Line: 12 tackles, 8 solo tackles, 3 sacks. No Tape Available.
Michael Steinbrink
Michael Steinbrink
Stat Line: 17 total tackles (9 solo, 8 assisted), 4 total TFLs, 1 sack.
Eval: Our Prep Redzone Dakotas subscribers might remember Michael from our recent North Dakota All-State Team lists as he put together an impressive first game for Hatton-Northwood in his senior season. I like Michael’s clinging awareness in the trenches to show noticeable physicality and a good football IQ to get after the football. He shows good athletic movement off his first step, can pick up the speed of a mobile quarterback, and put him to rest on the play into the turf. Michael shows early instincts getting to the ball carrier as the first window of contact in the early yards of the play. After watching NDSU commit Kelby Azure dominate in the trenches for Hatton-Northwood over the last several years, look for Michael’s name to appear a bunch in this 2022 season and the next up leader in charge on the front lines of the Thunder.
Ty Wolding
Ty Wolding
Stat Line: 11-17 passing, 279 total yards (175 passing, 104 rushing) 4 total touchdowns.
Eval: Ty mostly showed off running back and linebacker film in 2021, but if you watch the light tape on this young man, you can certainly catch waves of his athleticism leading to a 4 total touchdown performance in Week 1 of the 2022 season. Ty shows off some good versatile skillsets with his footwork and is a bulldozer in the run game that won’t be afraid to lower the shoulder to get the extra yards for his team. Although we don’t have Ty’s defensive stats from his Week 1 game, I like this kid’s physicality in the light tape he showed off from 2021. More to come from this young man, I am sure!
Sterling Enerson
Sterling Enerson
Stat Line: 9-15 passing, 154 passing yards, 3 TDs, 0 interceptions in first-ever varsity start, playing up against an 11-man team in Northern Cass.
Eval: In his first ever varsity start Sterling Enerson of Cavalier rocked the boat of Northern Cass and impressively beat an 11-man opponent on the road 22-0 on his way to 3 passing touchdowns and completing 60% of his passes as well. Sterling shows off in his early clips how elusive he is athletically by fighting off a handful of Northern Cass defenders outside of the pocket but was still able to complete a throw with good balance for a Tornadoes first down on that given play. Sterling also shows off a solid football IQ early and does a good job with his vision on play action, selling the run with a determined edge of keeping the defense off guard. I am really impressed with this young man’s feel in the pocket as he seems to be one step ahead when he feels pressure and makes good use of his legs, and throws an accurate intermediate route deep in his opponent’s territory. I will certainly be tracking this kid this season, as he has stock-rising capabilities even in the early hint of the season.

Hunter Charles

Kashton Keja
Kashton Keja
Stat Line: 8-11 passing, 210 total yards (179 passing, 31 rushing), 4 total TDs. Defensively, 8 tackles, two tackles for a loss.
Eval: I was not able to find tape on Kashton as of yet, but the stat line on this kid is impressive for not just his age but his size when I read deeper into him. Playing the QB position is no easy task to begin with, but playing it with the well-undersized measurables that Kashton plays with makes this stat line even more impressive especially completing nearly 73% of his passes for 179 yards and 4 total touchdowns in his 5’6 130-pound frame.
