Damien Freeman
Damien Freeman
Battery Creek is on the rise in Class 3A, and the Dolphins may have found themselves a hidden gem at running back. Damien Freeman was unleashed against Ridgeland-Hardeeville on Friday night, rushing for 186 yards and three touchdowns on 20 carries. Freeman’s terrific mobility and strength allows him to break tackles and accelerate into the open field for big gains. He’s already amassed 289 yards in just his first two games and could be in line for a huge season in the backfield with Hunter Smith back in at quarterback.
The Wake Forest commit was a force for the trenches all night in Claxton. Chris Marable Chris Marable 6’4″ | 280 lbs | DL Hilton Head | 2023 State SC showed off his power on the line, racking up 15 tackles including six for loss in Friday’s defeat to the Tigers. Marable has blossomed into a premier run-stuffer with a monster frame who can wreak havoc in the backfield at any time. He’ll be a tough matchup for anyone he’ll go up against in the state.
Chris Terry
Chris Terry
The Red Devils lost a special talent last year in Jamien Risher, but they may have found something on Friday night with Chris Terry. The sophomore dominated in throwing and running the football, passing for four touchdowns and adding another on the ground in a win over Allendale-Fairfax. He ran the option well and was efficient and accurate in the passing game, completing four of his nine attempts for scores. Terry has become an excellent game manager and has some upside for even bigger things as his Wade Hampton career goes on.
One of the most underrated defensive backs in the state, Colton Phares Colton Phares 6’1″ | 185 lbs | DB Beaufort | 2023 State SC excelled again in a close defeat to Fort Dorchester. The senior veteran has excellent quickness and hustle to break up passing routes and make tackles, recording 10 stops on Friday alongside two pass breakups. Phares could also see a bigger role as a receiver this year, providing another dangerous Beaufort threat for opposing defenses to cover. He brings terrific leadership for the entire unit and will be counted on to make key plays if the Eagles want to make another deep postseason run.
Kavon Chisolm
Kavon Chisolm
Kavon Chisholm starred on Estill’s defensive line in an impressive Friday victory over C.A. Johnson. The versatile junior was a force for the Gators, making 5 tackles with two sacks. He’s got an excellent technique with the strength and athleticism to evade blockers and make key tackles. Chisholm is quickly becoming a go-to playmaker for a 2-0 Estill team.
Shaikh Thompson
Shaikh Thompson
A budding star at Hilton Head, Shaikh Thompson was sensational again Friday night in the Seahawks’ defeat to Claxton. The junior recorded 12 tackles on the evening including six for loss. Thompson is an explosive lineman who can power into the backfield in a hurry. He should be a monstrous presence in both stuffing runs and pressuring quarterbacks for the Seahawks this season and will have a tough test this coming week against a veteran Beaufort squad.
