At this dinner, they talked about the upcoming seniors in the private high school Houston area getting ready for their season! I will be writing about the ten football honorees that stood out to me in this two-part article.
Lutheran South Reid Goldstraw Sr DB 5’9 165 lbs
Reid Goldstraw is a solid defensive back. Reid is passionate and great at locating the ball and immediately attacking right after. Reid has great tackling form and is also a hard hitter. With all these qualities Reid is going to have a great upcoming senior year. Reid’s stats last season were 49 overall tackles, 1 sack, and 2 interceptions
St. Pius X Bryce Mckeon QB Sr 6’1 190 lbs
When I went to see St. Pius X last year they have two quarterbacks Cale Skinner and Bryce Mckeon. I would say Cale was a mobile and scramble-focused quarterback while Bryce was the passing specialist. Bryce had great awareness with a full view of the field and was a very accurate quarterback. The only times one of Bryce’s passes failed was because the wide receiver dropped it or the defense had great coverage. Bryce’s had 950 passing yards with six passing touchdowns last season.
St. Thomas Shaffer Henderson WR Jr 6’3 185 lbs
Shaffer Henderson is a very consistent wide receiver. From the game I saw of him Shaffer didn’t do anything outstanding to stand out, but he never had any unnecessary movement. Shaffer was good at being where he needed to be and running the play. Being consistent and dependable is a great trait for a wide receiver. Shaffer was always able to get a 1st down and he put his team in a great position to score. Shaffer had 16 receptions, 305 receiving yards, and 4 touchdowns last season.
St. John Pierce Leverett TE, DE, WR Sr 6’4 230 lbs
Pierce Leverett is an intriguing player being able to play three different positions. From the game I watched of Pierce he started as a wide receiver but was later played as a tight end. Then, he came out on defense as a defensive lineman and a defensive end. Pierce is very athletic he’s tall and has a good frame he can easily transition to each position properly. I would say Pierce was better as a defensive end, he was fast off the ball and very aggressive. Pierce could block, tackle, catch and run he’s a very valuable player for St. John. Pierce’s stats last season were 17 receptions, 205 receiving yards, and two touchdowns.
Second Baptist Kyle Kollmorgan RB, LB Sr 6’2 200 lbs
Kyle Kollmorgan is a great linebacker. Kyle is patient, quick, fast, strong, and aggressive. Another key trait Kyle has is his persistence and drive to chase his man down the field and make the tackle. Kyle is the keystone to Second Baptist’s defense and would lead them very far in the 2022 season.
