Makhail Wood – Mill Creek
A breakout receiver in 7A, the Mill Creek Hawks have a dynamic, playmaking receiver on their hands in Wood, who has really come into his own to start the 2022 season. He dominated in Mill Creek’s week one victory over Walton to start the season, catching 8 passes for 171 yards and one touchdown. Against Norcross, Wood kept up his great play, catching four passes for close to 100 totals yards one touchdown while not playing in the entire 4th quarter. The Eastern Michigan commit caught an early TD pass in the game which set the ton for the Mill Creek offense. At 5-foot-11 160-pounds, Wood is a quick receiver with reliable hands. He’s a solid route runner who knows how to come down with the ball in traffic. The Mill Creek offense is clicking, so expect Wood to continue making big plays throughout the season.
Tavion Jackson – Duluth
Another big-play option and one of the state’s leading receivers through the first two games, Jackson has been unstoppable so far this season, catching 16 passes for 302 yards a three touchdowns. In Duluth’s season opener, Jackson caught five passes for 120 yards and two touchdowns. In last week’s game, Jackson made play after play in a losing effort, catching 11 passes for 180 yards and one touchdown. He’s excellent after the catch but knows how to get behind defenses for a big gain down the field. He’s been consistently one of the best athletes on the field and on his way to a gigantic senior season. He’s an under the radar 2023 wideout to keep an eye on in Gwinnett County.
Elijah Dewitt – Jefferson
One of the biggest new wide receiver names in the state, Dewitt has been fantastic through his first two games on his senior season. After an outstanding season opener against Alpharetta where he caught 4 passes for 137 yards and two touchdowns, the 6-foot-2 185-pounder followed that up with a monster game against Wren (SC), leading Jefferson to a big victory with his 4 receptions for 118 yards and two touchdowns. A standout two-way player, Dewitt has great speed and can score anytime he has the ball. He’s an excellent route runner, he’s a deep threat, and he’s tough to stop after the catch. He’s on his way to a breakout senior season, and he’s showing that he can play at the next level as both a receiver and a defender. A tough, gritty football player with big play ability, Dewitt is one to keep an eye on for the rest of the season.
Collin Fletcher – Cartersville
He may not be one of the state’s leading receivers through the first two weeks, but Fletcher is a standout two-way player out of a strong Cartersville program who should see more passes come his way throughout the season. At 5-foot-10 180-pounds, Fletcher plays bigger than his size and shows terrific ball skills. He has a lean frame, he’s athletic, and he’s tough. He plays heard and he consistently makes an impact with the ball in his hands. In the season opener, Fletcher caught three passes for 59 yards and one touchdown. He also hauled in an INT on defense. Last week, Fletcher caught only one pass, but it went for. a 32-yard touchdown. He plays the ball well in the air and knows how to come down with a tough catch. He should be a consistent weapon in the Cartersville passing game this season, so he’s one in North Georgia to keep a close eye on over the next several months.
