Duke Watson Duke Watson 6'0" | 180 lbs | RB Mary Persons | 2024 State GA – Mary Persons
One of the top running back prospects in Georgia, and arguably the best in the 2024 class, the Middle Georgia standout is leaving off exactly where he left as a sophomore, and that’s running through defenses. In the home opener for Mary Persons, their star running back put on a show, rushing for 290 yards and three touchdowns. He showed breakaway speed, balance, impressive football, and the ability to break tackles and continue adding yards. He has good size at 6-foot-0 185-pounds who can run right through defenders. He’s a natural back with vision, burst, and the ability to stay on his feet. He can zig-zag his way to a big run and and did a lot of that over the weekend. If he continues to run this well, he’ll start seeing more D1 interest coming his way.
Cameron Robinson Cameron Robinson 6'0" | 180 lbs | DB Norcross | 2024 GA – Mill Creek
There’s a breakout running back to know in 7A, and it’s the shifty junior in Cameron Robinson Cameron Robinson 6'0" | 180 lbs | DB Norcross | 2024 GA . Playing against two quality opponents already, Robinson has had no trouble running the football and he’s been impressive doing so. After scoring two touchdowns in a week one win over Walton, Robinson had another big game against Norcross, and he helped just as much in the passing game. The speedy 5-foot-8 170-pounder scored once on a wheel-route out of the backfield in the 1st half and added a nice 9-yard touchdown run to break the game open last in the 3rd quarter. The more he plays, the better he gets, and Mill Creek is going to need him to keep running well if they want to compete for a 7A title. He’s been excellent so far, and his versatility to going to keep defenses in check throughout the season.
Jontavis Curry – Thomson
A speedy back with balance and explosiveness, it’s easy to see why Curry has started his senior season off as well as any in the area. The Thomson Bulldog senior has a great junior year and improved even more in the off-season, and it showed through the first two weeks of the season. After a strong season-opening game where he rushed for over 100 yards and two touchdowns. Curry dominated in week two, rushing just 5 times for 153 yards in a big win over Jefferson County. He was just too fast and explosive for the opposing defense and Curry ran right through them when he had the ball. He’s a guy who can score on any particular play, and defenses better be ready to control him throughout the rest of the year. If not, Curry is going to run wild on most Friday nights.
Jaylen Poe – North Paulding
One of the more underrated backs in the state. Poe has dominated so far this season and has helped North Paulding get off to an impressive 2-0 start. After rushing for over 115 yards in the season opener, Poe was excellent again in a big win over East Paulding in week two. The 5-foot-10210-pounder runs really well for his size and knows how to break tackles. He runs with power, burst, and can be tough to bring down for just one defender. He sees the field well and knows how to fly past defenders once he gets through the line of scrimmage. He had a giant 1st quarter of this weekend’s game, rushing for two touchdowns early in the game. He finished the ballgame with 7 touches for 144 yards and 3 TDs while only playing in the first half. He looks unstoppable at times and in the beginning stages of a true breakout season.
