BATB 2022 was a great weekend with many great teams and players on display. As we recap the weekend's action we start with the graded performances of all quarterbacks of the New Jersey teams.

[player_tooltip player_id='183497' first='Jahki' last='Coates'], Salem

Grade: B+

Jahki is one of the most underrated quarterbacks in the state and he put on a spectacular performance against Cedar Grove. Scoring 6 touchdowns and gaining 352 all-purpose yards on the day between rushing and passing his dual-threat skillset was on full display, leaving Cedar Grove helpless to do anything to stop the Salem offense.

The B grade comes primarily due to the two bad interceptions he made in the scoring area. Make no mistake, his performance was dominant, but we hold Jahki to a high standard, and committing two turnovers in the red zone on the same play to the same player is unacceptable for a player of his caliber. Especially, after explaining to us he practiced the play all week.

Nonetheless, Jahki propelled his team to victory and looked like Auburn Cam Newton when running and throwing the football as Salem beat Cedar Grove 53-15.

We caught up with Jahki after the game:

[player_tooltip player_id='181955' first='Derek' last='Namnun'], Delran

Grade: C

As we stated in previous articles Namnun is going to be one of the safer quarterbacks, who will not put the ball in harm's way. He scored a rushing touchdown on the goalline off a beautiful PA fake. In addition, had two inaccurate deep passes one fell incomplete one was a turnover-worthy play that should on been intercepted but was a great play by receiver Ezra Thomas.

Namnun can play a lot better and we believe he will going forward.

[player_tooltip player_id='378676' first='Jacob' last='Zamot'], Millville

Grade: B

In his first action with a new coach and top-notch weapons on the outside. Zamot played well distributing the ball to all his playmakers.

First and foremost, he rarely put the ball in harm's way he did a great job of taking care of the football. Secondly, in the NFL there's a constant conversation around how much top receivers matter when it comes to the development of quarterbacks. How as a quarterback they need a top threat on the outside to unlock their full potential.

There is no difference at the high school level. Zamot had one pass that traveled over twenty yards. The majority of his yards came after the catch being more of a facilitator than a quarterback who has consistently make tough throws.

Zamot goes up against a tough Irvington team next Friday and while playing facilitator was good enough for a win against Thomas Jefferson. Will see how he handles playing against another state champion powerhouse where the talent level is much higher.

Matthew Yascko, Edison

Grade: B

Yascko executed the game plan really well. He was really effective on quarterback power runs and made some timely throws one for a touchdown in money time. Yascko won MVP of the game and had a strong performance to start the season.

[player_tooltip player_id='146477' first='Robert' last='Long'], St. Peter's Prep

Grade: A

The most well-rounded performance of the weekend was by Champ Long. Started off the game with a 30+ yard bomb to [player_tooltip player_id='187876' first='Zion' last='Fowler'] for a touchdown and Champ didn't look back. He also had some difficult throws including threading the needle between two defenders to [player_tooltip player_id='220088' first='Kenyon' last='Massey'] for a touchdown. He took great care of the ball didn't have any huge mistakes, had one interception off a tipped pass. He put togther the right mix of ball security, and pushing the ball down with accuracy to warrant a high grade.
