This is going to be a long series of new additions to our rankings to make sure that each young man is highlighted. That being said, there are P5 caliber recruits down to D3/JUCO recruits. The moral of the story, each of these young men did the work and deserved a spot in our rankings. We’re here to highlight their hard work. Without further ado, let’s take a look at Pt. 13 of our New Additions to the 23′ Rankings.
Mr. Catanese is a defensive tackle that can work as a 3 tech. Here, he showcases his active hands out of his stance to slip blocks and meet the ball carrier at the line of scrimmage for no gain at times. This young man has some strength as he can drive back the offensive center with one hand and use his off-hand to wrap up the ball carrier in the hole. Overall, he keeps working through the whistle and has the potential to become a darn good run stopper at the next level. Twitter Highlights
Mr. Baer is an offensive center that can wash the defensive lineman down by keeping his feet driving on the down block. When he’s pulling, he flashes his ability to jolt the 2nd level defender upright before putting the defender into the dirt. Talk about power on the initial punch. This young man can also snap and get his hands into attack position quickly to sustain run blocks creating a running lane for his ball carrier. Overall, Mr. Baer’s power is one to keep an eye on this fall season especially when he’s run blocking. Twitter
Mr. Kortie is a defensive tackle that works out of a 1 tech. What stands out the most about this young man is his power. Here, he has the strength to drive the offensive lineman back before disengaging to secure the tackle at/near the line of scrimmage. He can also hold his own against double-team blocks. Overall, this young man has the potential to be a two-gap defender. Twitter
Mr. McMahon has foot quicks to him which comes in handy when he runs the option as well as pulling the ball down to scramble. In the first clip in his highlights, he takes the direct snap on the QB Draw and finds the cutback lane quickly since the frontside lane is clogged up. Once he hits the cutback lane, he uses his foot quicks to break a long run for six. This young man flashes his ability to break weak grab tackles and keeps his feet driving through the whistle. Overall, this young man has the potential to play a variety of positions at the next level with how versatile his skillset is.
Mr. Johnson is a halfback that flashes his foot quicks to get through the line of scrimmage and is able to break weak grab tackles as he keeps his feet driving through contact. This all happens as he uses his vision to find running lanes quickly between the tackles. At times, he can also gain a step on 2nd level defenders as he gets through the hole to gain extra yards on the play.
Mr. Short is an outside linebacker that can be put at various positions on the defensive side of the ball. At times, he can play as a single high safety and rover. Both of which he can close quickly to secure tackles on the perimeter. This young man isn’t afraid to go up for 50/50 balls where he can force pass breakups or come away with interceptions. Overall, I’m very interested to see what position he molds into at the next level as his versatility allows him to play all across the defensive side of the ball.
