Nevertheless, they found ways to get the job done, and allow their yardage totals to contribute to first downs, touchdowns, and eventually wins for their teams. Below, we have listed some of the top returning leaders in yardage out of Georgia’s 2025 class.
Duke Johnson (QB)- Dodge County
In an 11 game span, as a Freshman, Duke Johnson led his class throughout the state of Georgia in yards, mainly due to what he was able to accomplish in the air. As a Freshman, he accounted for 1,127 yards passing, with a total of 604 rushing yards by the end of the year. This not only proved his versatility as an effective passer, but it also revealed that he was a threat with his legs. In addition to this, because of these gaudy statistics, he finished the year with an average of 159.4 yards a game. Surprisingly enough, Johnson also finished the year with 22 receptions, only further revealing that he was a versatile player, who’s skillset will likely translate into the upcoming season.
Donovan Johnson (RB)- Calvary Day
In total, Johnson not only had a strong season, accounting for a total of 1,465 yards as a freshman, but he mainly had a successful year on the ground. In rushing yards alone, Johnson totaled around 1,336 yards on the ground, with a total of 129 receiving yards, which mainly came out of the backfield. With this, it can be seen that he accumulated these yards in a 13 game span, while also putting up plenty of points for his team, proving to be a huge asset. Next season, especially as he is growing to be a more refined player, we expect Johnson to be a key contributor, and one of the more effective backs in the state, regardless of class.
Tripp Nix (QB)- White County
As one could expect, Nix, after his great freshman year, has made our list for one of the top returning leaders in yardage for next year. Last season, Nix totaled around 1,336 yards. Out of these yards, 1,329 of these yards came through the air. Only 7 yards came on the ground. While this seems like a small total of yards, we also recognize that Nix was a huge contributor for his team last year, and a big reason why they were competitive in a majority of their games. In fact, what makes his achievements last season more notable, is the fact that he did so in an 8 game span.
Zayden Walker (RB)- Schley County
Walker, who sees time on both sides of the football as a Freshman, has already made an impact for his team’s offense. Last season, Walker not only accumulated over 1,190 yards total, but he did so with a majority of them being on the ground. In fact, 1,001 of these yards were gained on the ground, which is even more impressive considering the fact that he was able to use his body in an aggressive, quick moving running style as a freshman. Paired with this, Walker also had over 190 receiving yards in a 12 game span, proving to be one of the more impactful backs out of the backfield in his class.
