We also take a look at one of the best running backs in the state who ran for 2,100 yards as a junior, and a big athlete in Caldwell who can play either defensive tackle or guard at the next level.
EDGE Wesley Hudson – 6’4″ 240 / De Soto HS — @_WesleyHudson_
Junior Stats: 88 tackles, 22 TFL, 14 QB Hurries, 6 sacks, 4 forced fumbles
Hudson dominated the field last season at Class 2A Rio Vista, and this season, he’s taken his talents to 6A powerhouse De Soto.
He’s got tremendous explosion off the edge, stays stout against the run, and flashes impressive sideline-to-sideline speed. He consistently wins with inside hand placement and has the power to bull rush opposing linemen with ease. He stays low throughout his pass rush and wins the leverage battle. Circle this talented prospect and keep an eye on him this season. He’s a Group of Five talent that’s flying a bit under the radar.
Currently has no offers.
RB Braylon Colgrove – 5’10″ 175 / Aubrey HS — @BraylonColgrove
Junior Stats: 2,199 rush yards, 31 touchdowns
Speed. Speed. Speed. These are the first words that come to mind when watching Colgrove. Mid-4.3 speed, to be exact. Tremendous explosion, elusiveness in the open field, and the juice to take it to the house anytime he touches the ball make Colgrove one of the best backs in the state. If there’s an inch of daylight, Colgrove will beat opposing defenses to it and make them pay.
The talented Chaparral will look to lead his team to a deep playoff run in 2022.
Currently has FCS offers from Idaho and Austin Peay.
OT Jamie Johnson – 6’7″ 290 / SA Sam Houston HS — @VonDxle
A mammoth of an offensive tackle, Johnson has a host of FCS offers, but has Group of Five talent. He consistently bends at the knee and excels in pass protection. Doesn’t consistently fire off with aggression in the ground game, and this could be why he doesn’t have Power 5 offers right now. If he can come out early this season and dominate like he’s capable of, especially in the run game, he will find his recruiting stock rising – and rising quickly.
Currently has offers from Sam Houston, Tennessee State, SE Missouri, Texas A&M-Commerce, and Incarnate Word.
DT/G Delvin Morris – 6’4″ 290 / Caldwell HS — @Morris_Delvin
Morris flashes star quality in the small town of Caldwell. He’s a big interior lineman that shows above-average lower leg flexibility, tremendous strength, and a motor that never shuts off. When he lines up at defensive tackle, he dominates against the run. When he lines up at guard, he gets great push at the point of attack and plays with the kind of nasty demeanor you want in a big hog molly. This young prospect is worth the trip to the small town west of College Station.
Has an FCS offer from Incarnate Word.
QB Luke Newton – 6’4″ 217 / Coram Deo Academy — @Newton_Luke
Newton stars for a private school in Flower Mound, and is poised to have the kind of senior season that will turn some heads. He checks all the boxes that you want in a high upside quarterback prospect. Great arm strength, poise under pressure, and an ability to hit consistently on timing routes makes this young signal caller one to watch for during the 2022 season.
Currently has no offers.
