The first action of the high school football season has kicked off in the state of Arkansas. It is time to go over what we learned over the weekend and who was impressive to kick off the season. We will look at both teams as well as individuals in this article. We have waited all year to get to the kickoff of the season so no more waiting needed it is time to see what we learned in week 0.

Starting things off with the Farmington Cardinals. Farmington appears to be clicking on all cylinders after an impress performance against Greenbrier on Friday night. On both sides of the ball the Cardinals look to be a strong team again this season. Farmington appeared in the playoffs last season and in week 0 appear to be in good shape to start the 2022 season. Here are a few prospects from the Cardinals who had impressive outings on Friday night.

[player_tooltip player_id='157343' first='Cameron' last='Vanzant']-Quarterback-Farmington-2024

We thought [player_tooltip player_id='157343' first='Cameron' last='Vanzant'] would come out ready to play in 2022 and we were not disappointed. Vanzant was 19 of 28 for 311 yards and four touchdowns on the night. He will have another test next week against Springdale, but he looks to be in mid-season form to start the season.

Peyton Funk-Wide Receiver-Farmington-2023

Farmington wide receiver gave opposing defensive secondaries plenty to worry about on Friday night. Funk had 10 receptions for 211 yards and two touchdowns on the night. Funk is setting the stage for a big season for the Cardinals.

Lawson DeVault-Wide Receiver-Farmington-2023

The passing game did not target just one receiver on Friday night. Lawson DeVault had an impressive outing for the Cardinals on Friday night. DeVault was on the receiving end of seven receptions for 95 yards and two touchdowns. The Farmington offense has the potential to have an extremely strong season.

[player_tooltip player_id='220842' first='Cooper' last='Gardenhire']-Linebacker-Farmington-2023

One man that was busy on both sides of the ball for the Cardinals was [player_tooltip player_id='220842' first='Cooper' last='Gardenhire']. The Farmington linebacker had 11 tackles, one pick six, and one forced fumble. Meanwhile, he also punched the ball into the end zone twice. Gardenhire had a stellar season in 2021 and I expect a big one this season.

The next team that we are going to look at tis the Bentonville Tigers. The Tigers were extremely impressive on Friday defeating a talented Broken Arrow team in the process. Here are a few of the individuals with strong performances on Friday night for the Tigers.

[player_tooltip player_id='320933' first='CJ' last='Brown']-Athlete-Bentonville-2024

The versatility that Brown has is going to make him extremely dangerous as the collegiate level in the future. Brown was on the receiving end of three receptions Friday night. However, he took all three to the house and totaled 125 yards in the process. He has the speed to cause plenty of problems in the 7-A West this season.

[player_tooltip player_id='75143' first='Josh' last='Ficklin']-Running Back-Bentonville-2023

The Tigers are never at a shortage for talent at the running back position and [player_tooltip player_id='75143' first='Josh' last='Ficklin'] is looking to have another strong season in 2022. Ficklin has always been tough to contain and on Friday night he proved that was true. Ficklin rushed for 157 yards and four touchdowns against Broken Arrow. He is setting the stage for a big season with a performance like that.

[player_tooltip player_id='392411' first='Carter' last='Nye']-Quarterback-Bentonville-2024

[player_tooltip player_id='392411' first='Carter' last='Nye'] picked apart the Broken Arrow defense on Friday night. The Bentonville signal caller went 11 of 18 for 269 yards and five touchdowns. Nye showcased a strong arm and fit the ball into some tight windows on Friday night. He is going to be a dangerous quarterback for opposing 7-A West defenses this season to contain.

Football teams in Benton County have made the statement that is going to be a tough year for teams facing them. Bentonville West had an impressive showing against Tulsa Washington on Friday night. We close our article today with a look at the Bentonville West Wolverines key performers.

[player_tooltip player_id='149592' first='Jake' last='Casey']-Quarterback-Bentonville West-2024

Casey has been an impressive quarterback to watch develop over the past few seasons. He looked extremely sharp on Friday against Tulsa Washington. Casey was 19 of 32 for 229 yards and two touchdowns on the night. Bentonville West and Casey each have the potential for a very strong season.

[player_tooltip player_id='135689' first='Carson' last='Morgan']-Running Back-Bentonville West-2023

Morgan is a running back that can hurt you in the running game or the passing game. On Friday night, he churned out the tough yards well for the Wolverines. He rushed 18 times for 62 yards and one touchdown. Morgan is another prospect I expect to have an impressive season this season.

Jaxon Burst-Wide Receiver-Bentonville West-2024

The Bentonville West wide receiving corps is well represented in what we learned this week. Burst was on the receiving end of nine receptions for 93 yards and one touchdown. Burst has the speed to stretch the field and will likely have a big season this season.

[player_tooltip player_id='411125' first='Ty' last='Durham']-Wide Receiver-Bentonville West-2023

Durham has always had a mix of route running and speed that has always impressed me. Both were on full display Friday night against Washington. Durham caught three passes for 89 yards and one touchdown. Durham is a player that always finds a way to get open.

The season is just getting started and look for more stories this week from all of the staff at Prep Redzone Arkansas. Enjoy your Sunday folks!
