South Pointe finished the 2021 season with a 12-1 overall record and a state championship win over Beaufort. And then the Stallions had a change in leadership after DeVonte Holloman departed for the University of South Carolina as a defensive analyst.

Bobby Collins comes from Marlboro County and is no stranger to football in the area as he has coached at Lancaster as well as Hough and Providence Day in Charlotte. Now, he's looking to continue the winning tradition for the Stallions.

The biggest question for South Pointe on offense will be who will replace Zaveion McCrorey, who is now at Lenoir Rhyne University. Malachi Marshall is a rising junior who stands at 6'2, has a solid arm and has shown a good connection with his receivers from what we've been able to gather in 7on7 clips. Caleb Sims returns as a good combo of power and speed at running back.

At wide receiver, who will step up to replace Waymond Jenerette? Demari Kendrick appears to be a guy who can fill that void as someone who can stretch the field and score with the ball in his hands. We expect [player_tooltip player_id='202769' first='Khyre' last='Rawlinson'] to be back after missing the majority of the 2021 season with an injury.

On the offensive line, there are some questions that will also need to be answered with losses due to graduation. Look for a guy like Deon Wylie to step up and be a leader on the line. Cam Wilson and Zymerion Carter are both sophomores and have built up some experience on JV if not varsity, so it will be interesting to see the cohesion come together.

The strength of the Stallions on defense in 2022 will begin with their front seven. [player_tooltip player_id='139304' first='Chris' last='Dixon'] and A.J. Miller will be a duo that will be tough for opposing offensive lineman to handle. [player_tooltip player_id='146375' first='Jonathan' last='Williams'] returns for his senior season at linebacker. DJ Barksdale will lead things in the secondary as he has committed to James Madison University over the summer on the 4th of July.

South Pointe's 2022 schedule will feature more local teams with the realigned 4A but not before they face some star studded matchups to open the season as the defending 5A state champion Gaffney visits District 3 Stadium on Saturday, August 20. The Stallions will face Mallard Creek out of Charlotte two weeks later on September 2. A trip to South Florence will also be tough on September 17 as well before region play begins.
