This edition of the weekly round-up includes significant commitments that will affect recruiting on a national scale. Let’s check out the biggest news that’s happening around the state.
[player_tooltip player_id="125520" first="Tony" last="Mitchell"] 6’2 185 Thompson
The No.1 prospect in our rankings has officially committed his services to the University of Alabama. With the school producing the likes of Marlon Humphrey, Patrick Surtain II, and Trevon Diggs, it makes sense Mitchell chose Alabama as the next step in his career. With next-level size, Mitchell can press effectively, clog up throwing lanes, and stay in plays. He uses his wingspan tremendously well when being disruptive and playing through the hands of receivers to cause deflections. Additionally, Mitchell has the skill to excel in man and zone coverage. He has smooth hips, excellent reaction time, and an understanding of route patterns that enables him to play faster than his listed 40 times. Mitchell is also adept at making plays in the run game and shows solid fundamentals when defending runs on the perimeter and getting off blocks. Look for Mitchell to possibly be another product of DBU and have a chance to play on Sundays.

[player_tooltip player_id="127796" first="Jeremiah" last="Cobb"] 5’11 186 Montgomery Catholic Academy
Cobb has officially announced his commitment to the University of Auburn. The dynamic playmaker is one of the most explosive running backs in the class and is our RB1 of the 2023 class. With top-tier speed, elite acceleration, and quickness, Cobb can immediately impact the Tigers. When playing in space, he shows excellent shiftiness and elusiveness when evading defenders. However, Cobb does show great lower body strength when keeping his legs moving after facing contact and driving through tackle attempts. AS an instant scoring threat in the open field, Cobb’s explosiveness can be leveraged as a return specialist, change of pace back, and a third-down back at the next level.

[player_tooltip player_id="240437" first="Ethan" last="Hubbard"] 6’7 280 OT Hoover
The Blue Devils have officially received a commitment from [player_tooltip player_id="240437" first="Ethan" last="Hubbard"] and will get a future contributor on the offensive front. As an offensive lineman, he’s a dominant force as a mauler that can create holes in the run game and keep his QB clean as a pass protector. With elite strength, Hubbard also shows nuance in his hand placement, footwork, and ability to win one on one reps. He can withstand bull rushes, has enough lateral quickness to slow down speed rushers, and has the grip strength to drive defenders out the way in the run game. Hubbard adds much-needed depth at the OT position for Duke and should be a starter within two years.

[player_tooltip player_id="128286" first="Mason" last="Myers"] 6’5 265 OL Moody
Myers has committed his protection services to Arkansas State and looks to be an impact player at the next level. The Moody high school product asserted his dominance last year with his elite strength and a relentless mentality when protecting ball carriers. Shows top-tier power when driving opposing linemen out of the play, withstanding bull rushes, and serving up pancakes on a consistent basis. Myers plays with excellent leverage at the point of attack and seems to always be in a position to make plays on rushers. He shows enough agility to be active on perimeter plays and get to the second level as a lead blocker. Myers is also a mauler who enjoys playing to the whistle and asserting himself during the game. Look for Myers to be a solid contributor and a possible starter at the next level.
