If you can make an impact there, you can make an impact at the college level as well. It’s where the big boys play, and it’s where some of the state’s top receivers are, especially in 7A.
Here are some of the top returning receivers are in 7A in the 2024 class…
Ny Carr Ny Carr 5'10" | 175 lbs | WR Colquitt County | 2024 State GA – Colquitt County
One of the top playmakers in all of South Georgia, the speedy playmaker out of Colquitt County is coming off a dominating sophomore season where he torched defenses on a weekly basis. It’s not easy to make make a giant impact at a big program as a sophomore, but that’s exactly what Carr was able to do last fall. A quick twitchy receiver who runs a great route, Carr can do just about anything asked of him from a receiver standpoint. He can take a quick slant for a big gain, he’s great in the screen game, and he’s one of the best down-field threats in the area. He’s also dominated during the 7-on-7 circuit this month, helping to lead Colquitt County to the Athens 7-on-7 tournament championship as well as the tournament championship at Collins Hill. Last fall, Carr made 40 receptions for 856 yards and 13 touchdowns, leading all 2024 receivers in 7A. He also holds offers from Georgia, Florida, Arkansas, among others.
One of the top two-way players in Gwinnett County last fall, the dynamic sophomore showed why he’s one of the leading receivers in the state for his class, showing great hands along with his 6-foot-3 180-pound frame. While many schools have offered him to play safety, Matthews will likely continue making big plays for the Panthers as a receiver in 2022. He shows good ball skills, the ability to break tackles, and shows decent speed for his frame. As a sophomore last fall, Matthews showed game-changing ability on offense, catching 48 passes for 764 yards and 7 touchdowns. He’s great in the open field, but he’s also a weapon in jump-ball situations due to his vertical and overall ball skills, snatching the ball in the air at it’s highest point. He’s one of the top athletes in the region and expected to light up opposing secondaries once again, even if he’s going up against some of the state’s best in Gwinnett County. He’s already labeled as a five-star prospect and ranked as the No. 11 prospect in the state for the 2024 class. He holds offers from Georgia, Notre Dame, Alabama, among others.
Debron Gatling Debron Gatling 6'2" | 180 lbs | WR Milton | 2024 State GA – Milton
Already known across the state as one of the best receivers in the 2024 class, Gatling is a smooth route runner with good size and reliable hands. A speedy receiver with 4.54 speed in the 40-yard dash, it’s easy to see why he was one of the most productive sophomore wideouts across Georgia last year. The 6-foot-1 185-pounder has shown his explosiveness during the camp season so far, and after reviewing his tape, Gatling recently earned an offer from his “dream school”, the University of Alabama. As a sophomore last season, Gatling 36 passes for 705 yards and 11 touchdowns. Look for those number to improve as a junior this fall. He plays for one of the top receiver coaches in the state in former Bulldog Terrence Edwards, and he holds a number of impressive offers early on. Just a rising junior, Gatling’s best football is still ahead of him, and he has a chance to put up even better numbers this fall.
Brady Kluse – Harrison
One of the top under the radar wide receivers not only in Cobb County, but across Georgia regardless of class, Kluse had a very impressive sophomore season last fall against quality competition every week. He’s got good size for his age at 6-foot-3 185-pounds and showed above average speed as well. He’s a big target down the field and an excellent runner after the catch. He shows good ball skills, can win a good amount of jump-balls, and can bring down a tough grab in tight coverage. He’s a good athlete who can play some safety on defense due to his length and reliable ball skills. He looks like a D1 prospect physically, and he’s bound for a breakout junior season this fall. As a sophomore last year, Kluse caught 38 passes for 616 yards and 6 touchdowns, making him one of the most productive sophomore receivers in 7A last fall. Look for him to have another big season for the Hoyas as a junior.
