There are multiple 2024 backs who are ready to have a breakout season this fall, and Prep Redzone has the latest below…
Duke Watson Duke Watson 6'0" | 180 lbs | RB Mary Persons | 2024 State GA – Mary Persons
It was only a matter of time before the Middle Georgia back would start reeling in offers, and now that time has come. One of the top returning rushers in 3A, Watson is coming off a sensational sophomore season last year and recently earned an offer form the in-state Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. A quick, agile back from Forsyth, Watson is a tough 5-foot-10 175-pounder who rushed for 1,716 yards on 224 carries and scored 25 touchdowns last year. He was one of the most productive sophomore backs in the state last year and now he could see more offers coming his way this fall. He’s a smooth runner with balance and the ability to score every time he has the ball, so look for him to have a giant junior season in 2022. Watson is currently ranked as the No. 51 prospect in the state and No. 3 RB prospect in the newest rankings update.

Jayden Evans – Effingham County
A tough, physical back from the Savannah area, Evans is a strong, bruising back who has no problem bowling over defenders. At 5-foot-8 185-pounds, he might not be the biggest back in the area, but he’s thick, powerful, and has impressive lower-body strength. He does a good job of keeping his legs churning and can be tough to bring down by just one defender. He’s not a burner, but he runs well for a tackle-breaking type of back. Evans also has experience playing linebacker, showing his toughness and ability to play both ways. He’s also a reliable weapon out of the backfield and knows how to get upfield quickly after the catch. Look for him to have a giant junior season this fall.
Jessie Washington III – Georgia Military College
An excellent two-way prospect in Middle Georgia, Washington is a true threat to score whenever he has the ball with impressive burst and quickness. At 5-foot-9 200-pounds, Washington runs with balance and solid pad level, making him tough to tackle both up top and around his feet. He’s quick for his size and knows how to bounce off tackles for extra yards. He was a consistent runner each Friday, rushing for an average of 123 yards per game last year as a sophomore. He also rushed for an outstanding 1,000 yards and 8 touchdowns on the year. The Milledgville native is one of the best in the area and should see even more opportunities to carry the ball and make plays as a junior. He’s tough, physical, and bound for a big season coming up.
Makari Bodiford Makari Bodiford 6'0" | 210 lbs | RB McEachern | 2024 State GA – Walton
One of the top returning running backs in Cobb County, Bodiford is a tough 6-foot-0 205-pounder coming off a big sophomore season where he rushed for 712 yards and 12 touchdowns at McEachern. The rising junior shows good burst and vision for his age who knows how to change directions well for someone 200+ pounds. He looks like an upperclassmen running the ball, falling forward at the end of runs and showing the ability to break off a long run at any point. A future D1 back, Bodiford runs hard, runs with balance, and can be a weapon in short-yardage and goal-line situations. He’ll be a breakout player to know for the Raiders and has a chance to lead lead their offense to another deep playoff run. Bodiford is ranked as the No. 72 prospect and No. 7 RB in Georgia according to the latest Prep Redzone Rankings.
