I have begun team previews of some of the top teams in the Raleigh/Durham region. There are a lot of talented players throughout the region. The previews will highlight the recruits on the teams featured. A high level of competition is expected as the high school season starts in late August.
[player_tooltip player_id="385260" first="De'Kwan" last="Bradley"] (6'0" 175, QB) has another year of experience under his belt. He is expected lead a run-oriented offensive unit into a promising season with big expectations. He will hand the ball to workhorse running back, Arone Herring (5'10" 175, RB) who is expected to continue his stellar performance on the field. Arone is a durable running back who can run inside to gain tough yardage. He has the explosiveness to run past defenders in the open field for big gains. Arone finished last season with 1,547 rushing yards, 16 rushing TDs, and 247 receiving yards. [player_tooltip player_id="186427" first="Dylan" last="Wagner"] (6'2" 280, OL), [player_tooltip player_id="385280" first="Mikal" last="Masionet"] (6'0" 325, OL), and [player_tooltip player_id="385264" first="Jamar" last="Bell"] (6'2" 260, OL) are technique-sound offensive linemen who will use upper body strength to control defenders while opening lanes for the running backs.
New Bern has one of the top defensive units in the state. [player_tooltip player_id="44971" first="KJ" last="Sampson"] (6'4" 285, DL), Notavein Green (6'1" 210, DL), and W. Brimmer (6'3" 200, DL) are exceptionally quick defensive linemen with very good use of hands to control blockers, while moving past them for stops. KJ is the most dominant player on the defensive unit. He is often double-teamed in attempt to slow him down. [player_tooltip player_id="385274" first="JeQuell" last="Stewart"] (6'0" 200, LB) moves well laterally and displayed good speed to cover a lot of ground quickly for stops. He finished last season with 60 total tackles, 4 of those were tackles for losses. [player_tooltip player_id="146539" first="Damaree" last="Tucker"] (6'0" 160, DB) and Arone Herring (5'10" 175, DB) are technique-sound defensive backs who uses quickness to cover wide receivers, making it difficult to complete a catch against them. Damaree finished last season with 33 total tackles. Arone finished last season with 49 total tackles, 2 of those tackles were for losses. New Bern is expected to defend the conference crown and advance into the state playoffs.
