Expectations, hope, and predictions should all be high for the Cardinals out of Mayville HS. They powered their way to an 11-3 record in 2021, and finished the season as State Runner Ups. They lost a nail bitter of a state championship game that essentially came down to the final play of the game. With several key contributors to last year’s run returning for the 2022 season you can expect Mayville to make another run at a championship.

Mayville fields several two way athletes, and many of those two way athletes are returning for 2022. The top producing returning RB in the state is apart of this powerhouse of a team. They also field a D1 talent at LT, a QB with all the necessary experience to lead a team and step up when needed. All three also play on defense. With all this experience and leadership returning the sky is the limit. They put up 40 points per game and only allowed 18.7 points per game. As we go through the team in this preview it will become very apparent that they should be viewed as a favorite to bring home a state title.

Production. Traits. Look at Blake however you want to. Either way you come away very impressed with the potential within the RB/LB. Blake is going to be the motor that makes the Mayville offense go. His blend of speed, power, and size is college level ready. Look for him to dominate this fall, and see his recruitment pick up. Right now, he is looking like a legitimate steal for a D2 program, and D1s should take a look. He is a surprising talent.","_player_evaluations_0_evaluation":"field_62aba51aecf34","player_evaluations_1_player":["304403"],"_player_evaluations_1_player":"field_62ab9d62ecf2c","player_evaluations_1_not_in_database":"","_player_evaluations_1_not_in_database":"field_62aba48cecf2d","player_evaluations_1_evaluation":"Hewston is a hidden gem that the next level needs to take more consideration into. The 6’6u0022 285 lbs LT has so many exciting traits. He has earned multiple D2 offers, but only one D1 offer from South Dakota. I think that changes after a dominant fall where he shows his power and ability to reset the line of scrimmage. His range, heavy hands, and powerful base are going to be impossible to ignore this fall. Get on him early.","_player_evaluations_1_evaluation":"field_62aba51aecf34","player_evaluations_2_player":["304450"],"_player_evaluations_2_player":"field_62ab9d62ecf2c","player_evaluations_2_not_in_database":"","_player_evaluations_2_not_in_database":"field_62aba48cecf2d","player_evaluations_2_evaluation":"Bradley is an exciting two way athlete. He dominated the Prep Redzone WI showcase this spring. He ran a 4.58 40 at the event, and then went on to put out several impressive clips at his camp cycle during teh summer. Bradley isn’t used a ton in the passing game because of the minimal passing, but he still is able to make an impact with his limited touches. That is thanks to is athleticism, size, and strength. Enough strength to also be a solid HS DE as well as TE. Bushke is an under the radar kid right now, but he will standout this season. Keep a close eye on him.","_player_evaluations_2_evaluation":"field_62aba51aecf34","player_evaluations":3,"_player_evaluations":"field_62aba7547dc44"},"align":"","mode":"preview"} /-->

2022 Schedule/ Games to Circle

Aug 19 vs Cedar Grove- Belgium

Last season, Mayville stumbled out of the gate as they lost to Cedar Grove- Belgium Week 1 of 2021. This year they can avenge that as they look to kick off their 2022 season with a W. This will be the kickoff for what could be a championship season, and potentially an undefeated one. Step one will be to handle business in Week 1. This will also be the start of what could be a statistically historical season for [player_tooltip player_id=’304448’ first=’Blake’ last=’Schraufnagel’] at RB, and LB. Look for him to get work early and often as they establish the run game that has brought them so much success.

Aug 26 @ Horicon/Hustisford

Sept 2 vs Campbellsport

The rivalry built up last year between these two. Campbellsport took the W during the regular season. Mayville took the W in the payoffs to enact revenge on the way to State. This midseason matchup kicks off conference play and will be a huge decider in who brings home the conference championship at seasons end. Campbellsport will be looking to replace some key pieces, but you can bet they will come out ready to play against the team that ended their 2021 season. This will be the toughest test for Mayville this far into the season.

Sept 9 @ Winnebago Lutheran

Sept 30 @ Omro

Oct 7 vs North Fond du Lac

Oct 13 @ St. Mary’s Springs

This is the matchup of the Mayville regular season. St. Mary’s Springs has a lot to replace, but they have the talent to do so. I strongly believe that this will be a winner take all matchup for the conference championship. It also could be where Schraufnagel locks up the state rushing title and Top Senior RB award to go with it. These two well coached teams should give each other their bet shot as they prepare to head into the playoffs. A conference crown will be a nice boost of confidence as the state title run begins. I believe a healthy Mayville team can leave this game with a 9-0 record, and a #1 seed.
