Not only can they be an additional offensive weapon, but they can be a huge level of defensive support as well. These are just some of the few reasons why it is even more fun to track younger kickers, and specialists. In doing so, you can begin to find younger players with a ton of upside, even before anyone else does. Below, feel free to take a look at some of our favorite kickers in Georgia’s 2024 class who we feel are also on the rise.
Jose Alegria- Rockmart
While many high school football fans are not aware of Alegria, we wanted to take some time to recognize his high level of talent, as he not only put up 53 points for his team as a sophomore, but he did so in a 9 game span. In these 9 games, Alegria went toe to toe with the competition, proving that a kicker can be very valuable to his team. He averaged around 5.9 points a game, and also proved to be able to hit extra points consistently. By the end of the year, he hit 47 extra points, and also made 2 field goals. Going into next year, look for him to continue to add to his success, and to be a huge part of his team’s success.
Gray Kelley- Allatoona
Not only is Allatoona a reputable program, but having success in this program is not easy to do. They compete against quality talent statewide, and their region in itself tends to be a bit tougher at times. Last season, Kelley proved to be an up and coming player for his team, and position group, as he put up 47 points, largely due to the 35 field goals that he made. In addition to this though, he also hit 4 field goals, demonstrating his leg strength, accuracy, and range. Next season, look for him to piece all of this together with better timing, and comfort under pressure, which will likely make him an even more polished player.
Lucas Buckner- First Presbyterian Day
During the 2021 season, Bucker did exactly what he was supposed to do for his team, as he put up 42 total points in a 13 game span, causing them to not only win plenty of games, but to be able to compete in tight situations. Not only did Buckner step up to the plate, but he proved that even though his kicking can be a bit raw at times, that he has plenty of natural talent that can help him build a reputation in the coming years. In this 13 game span, Bucker totaled 33 extra points, and also scored on 3 field goals, showing how versatile he is as a player. Moving forward, we would like to see him work on his overall timing, and the way he kicks from the hashes.
Ethan Devers- Newnan
Not only does Devers play against a solid level of competition each season, but he has already managed to have success against them to this early point in his high school career. As a 2024 prospect, Devers already totaled 41 points for his team, which is largely due to his success with extra points. Last season, Devers hit 29 extra points, and also scored 12 points on 4 successful field goals. Even better than this is the fact that he did so in a 7 game span, rather than 9-12. Next season, especially due to his sample size of success that he displayed last year, we fully expect him to perform at an efficient rate for the Cougars, adding an extra level of offense to their team.
Max Prozny-Starr’s Mill
Last season, Prozny had his own fair share of success as a young player in the Starr’s Mill program. By the end of the year, he not only totaled around 34 extra points, but he also finished the year with 2 field goals as well. These kicks totaled 40 points by the end of the season, also causing him to finish the year with an average of 3.3 points a game within a 12 game span. This level of efficiency will more than likely help him to become a great player for Starr’s Mill in the coming years, especially if he can continue to improving in the timing, and distance of his kicks.
