While specialist positions tend to be top heavy at times, there are still plenty of talented players across the state who have the ability to play at the next level, even if it is at a lower level of play. Below, we have listed a few prospects at the kicker position who we feel are not only on the rise next season, but have the potential to gain more attention through their previous, and future success.
Trent Brockmann- Heritage
Last season, as a Junior, Brockmann had an underrated season compared to some of the top kickers in the state within his class, as he not only totaled 56 points by the end of the year, but he also averaged around 5 points a game. In addition to this, Brockmann also hit a total of 44 extra points, with 4 total field goals. Even more impressively, he managed to accomplish this within only 11 games, proving that he has the ability to make a huge impact throughout the entirety of the season. Next season, we would like to see him take a leap forward in some of his field goals from the hash, as he has good leg strength, but has growth ahead of him in this area.
Cole Jordan- Central Davidson
Just like Brockmann, Jordan also had a very solid Junior year, finishing with 1 less point, at 55 points by the end of the year. These 55 points came in a 10 game span, with all of them coming from extra points. While we believe in his consistency, accuracy, and timing, we would like to see him develop in his overall accuracy, and leg strength, as this would be needed in field goal situations, which he will likely see more of next season. In addition to this, being able to handle pressured situations is not easy for everyone, so taking a step forward in this regard next season will also be key for assisting his offense when they tend to struggle.
Carson Foard- Maiden
Last season, Foard proved to be highly productive for his team within a 12 game span, as he put up 49 total points, all from extra points. While he kicks with a decent bit of accuracy, and timing, we would like to see him improve in his overall leg strength, especially in field goal situations, as the addition of this dynamic to his game next season will certainly assist him in his development, and any opportunity that he may have of playing at the next level. Nevertheless, we feel that he is on the rise next season, as he has still managed to put up a great level of production for his team.
Carter Daugherty- Triton
One of the things that we feel sets Daugherty apart from most other kickers on this list is the fact that he managed to kick and score in very balanced ways last season, including successful attempts of field goals, and extra points. By the end of the year, Daugherty scored 48 points, largely due to the 33 extra points he had, but also due to the 5 field goals that he managed to make. This not only proves that he can handle pressured situations, but it also reveals that he is unafraid to put his leg strength, and accuracy to the test. Next season, especially as he has more opportunities to take more important kicks, and handle kicks from the hash, we feel that he will take a step forward in his progression, and will be on the rise in his position group across the state.
Sydney McCorkle Sydney McCorkle 5'6" | 150 lbs | K Providence Day | 2023 State NC
During the 2021 season, Mccorkle also had a solid showcase, as he put up around 4.2 points a game, with a total of 46 points throughout the duration of an 11 game season. Out of all of these points, about 43 of them came from extra points, with 1 of them being from a field goal. With this, it can be seen that Mccorkle kicks with a consistent motion and follow-through, and does a solid job of getting under the ball. Next season, as he grows in leg strength, we would like to see him improve in field goal situations, with more pressure on the line.
