The graduation of QB Clash Orsborn, now at Lewis & Clark, opens the door for Ethan Silber who was a standout WR/DB a year ago and added offers from Cal Lutheran and Grinnell College this month. Jacob Sloan and Jack Ryan will be key skill guys to watch this season.
HaTan Nguyen- LB, 2023
Mission Bay returns its leading rusher and tackler from last season in Nguyen. He’s an athletic tackler at 6’0”/180 that fills aggressively between the tackles and possesses the lateral speed to tackle sideline-to-sideline. He’s an effective interior blitzer that can be disruptive at or behind the LOS. He flashed a solid receiving skillset out of the backfield with ability to make plays in space. Nguyen picked up offers from Whittier and Grinnell in June.
Jacob Sloan- WR, 2023
Sloan totaled 72 catches for close to 1,000 yards and 18 TDs as the leading receiver for MB last season. He’s a primary playmaker that can work the middle of the field out of the slot and catch in traffic. He’s a crafty route-runner that can create space with sharp breaks and short-area burst. He flashes playmaking ability after the catch with plus-side elusiveness and is slippery in space. Sloan picked up offers from Grinnell and Lewis & Clark in the last two months and is one of the more underrated playmakers in San Diego heading into the fall.
Ethan Silber- QB, 2023
Silber’s a versatile athlete that played CB, WR, backup QB and took carries out of the backfield as a junior. He’ll fill the starting QB role after the graduation of standout ’22 QB Clash Orsborn. He made plays in the secondary last season jumping shallow routes with quick C.O.D. and is aggressive attacking the ball through receiver hands. He’s a willing tackler that can close and break down in space. He’s shown ability to push the ball downfield and fit the ball in tight windows during offseason 7on7s. Silber holds offers from Cal Lutheran and Grinnell.
Jack Ryan- ATH, 2023
Ryan is a key two-way returner at WR/DB. He was a standout WR last season totaling 40 catches and 13 TDs as a junior. He produced explosive plays downfield out of the slot with ability to create separation at the second/third levels and finish with strong hands and concentration. He can make plays in coverage over the middle of the field from his S spot and is a physical tackler playing close to the LOS. Ryan and Sloan will be relied on as the leading receivers for new starting QB Ethan Silber in the fall. Ryan picked up offers from Grinnell and Lewis & Clark the past two months.
Teddy Buettner- OL, 2023
Buettner offers versatility in the trenches on both sides of the ball for MB. He’s an athletic blocker at 6’1”/250 that can play both G and C. He can move and adjust to blocks in space and does a good job sticking to blocks and finishing with strong leg drive. On defense, he’s a physical player in the run game that can shed blocks and track down ball-carriers. Buettner has offers from Culver-Stockton, Lewis & Clark, and Grinnell.
