The last major passing league tournament of the summer will take place this Saturday at Mission Viejo High. 20 Southern California teams will compete in four different pools. There will also be a lineman competition at the event. Los Alamitos won the event last season and will be competing again this season. Some of the teams competing Saturday also competed at the Battle at the Beach passing tournament last week so their previews will be short because they just competed. For highlights from that tournament, click here to read. POOL A Mission Viejo, St. Paul, Bishop Amat, Capo Valley, La Habra Mission Viejo The Diablos surprised some people and won the Battle at the Beach passing tournament with playoff wins over Los Alamitos, Mater Dei and St. John Bosco. [player_tooltip player_id="25441" first="Kadin" last="Semonza"] is firing on all cylinders at quarterback and the Diablos have so many receiving weapons that you cannot key on anybody. If you bracket [player_tooltip player_id="25408" first="Mikey" last="Matthews"], [player_tooltip player_id="190360" first="Jackson" last="Holman"] can hurt you. If you shift the defense to Holman and Matthews, [player_tooltip player_id="261773" first="KJ" last="Reed"] or [player_tooltip player_id="261722" first="Edward" last="Schultz"] can hurt you. Mikey D'Amato is an underrated star on defense and [player_tooltip player_id="270905" first="Treyvon" last="Tolmaire"] is a ball hawk. https://twitter.com/TheRBCoach/status/1545950856356380672?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1545950856356380672%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_c10&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fprepredzone.com%2F2022%2F07%2Fmission-viejo-makes-statement-at-battle-at-the-beach%2F St. Paul St. Paul won the consolation bracket of the SoCo Invitational tournament at Newport Harbor last weekend. Andrew Maushardt is a potential star at quarterback and [player_tooltip player_id="338461" first="Aidan" last="Bravo"] is one of the more underrated receivers in Southern California. https://twitter.com/ramosjacobb/status/1546371722349142017?s=20&t=ngnX6baLJ_cm2SXoxnUIfw Bishop Amat [player_tooltip player_id="240019" first="Hunter" last="Watson"] really impressed me at quarterback in the clips I saw from the Battle at the Beach. He looks comfortable reading defenses and has good chemistry with his receivers, particularly [player_tooltip player_id="145208" first="Delano" last="Franklin"]. St. Paul and Bishop Amat are arguably the two best teams in the San Gabriel Valley and they will play each other early on Saturday. https://twitter.com/hunterwatsonqb/status/1546540531919900672?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1546540531919900672%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_c10&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fprepredzone.com%2F2022%2F07%2Ftweets-and-highlights-from-the-battle-at-the-beach%2F Capo Valley Capo Valley hung with some top teams at the Battle at the Beach and got a walk-off win over Warren on an interception by Erik Carmona. [player_tooltip player_id="261786" first="Trey" last="Kukuk"] is a polished quarterback with a quality arm. It remains to be seen how healthy the Capo Valley receivers will be. https://twitter.com/ocvarsityguy/status/1545823756139970560?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1545823756139970560%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_c10&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fprepredzone.com%2F2022%2F07%2Ftweets-and-highlights-from-the-battle-at-the-beach%2F La Habra La Habra had a nice showing at the Corona del Mar passing tournament. [player_tooltip player_id="270920" first="Justin" last="Gil"] is as polished a quarterback as anyone in his class and Jacob Apodaca may be a 1,000 yard receiver this year. The Highlanders just added defensive back Eddie Rodriguez Jr. from Villa Park. https://twitter.com/jacobapo_/status/1540736799575646208?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1540736799575646208%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_c10&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fprepredzone.com%2F2022%2F06%2Fcdm-passing-tournament-top-offensive-performers%2F POOL B Chino Hills, Millikan, Los Alamitos, St. Bonaventure, Sierra Canyon Chino Hills has a nice crop of returning receivers in William Davis, Jacob Brooks and [player_tooltip player_id="115418" first="Tyrese" last="Boss"]. Keanu Vasquez may be the quarterback for Chino Hills. He is undersized at 5-foot-9 but has some accuracy and upside. Kade Musser and [player_tooltip player_id="301428" first="Hunter" last="Corbin"] are two defensive stars for the Huskies. https://twitter.com/keanu_vasquez13/status/1539731696869773312?s=20&t=ExWQ9qBtimZ_YV-LGwBGuw Millikan [player_tooltip player_id="115449" first="Myles" last="Jackson"] looked really nice at quarterback in clips I saw from the Battle at the Beach. [player_tooltip player_id="115423" first="Jordan" last="Anderson"] will be one of the best receivers at the event and [player_tooltip player_id="115471" first="Ryan" last="Pellum"] can make big plays after the catch. In a passing league setting, expect running back [player_tooltip player_id="25421" first="Nygel" last="Osborne"] to make plays from the backfield. https://twitter.com/Rivals/status/1545871934511935488?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1545871934511935488%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_c10&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fprepredzone.com%2F2022%2F07%2Ftweets-and-highlights-from-the-battle-at-the-beach%2F Los Alamitos [player_tooltip player_id="25419" first="Malachi" last="Nelson"] is the best quarterback at the event. [player_tooltip player_id="25398" first="Makai" last="Lemon"] did not compete at the Battle at the Beach due to injury but [player_tooltip player_id="145170" first="Ethan" last="O'Connor"] stepped up and [player_tooltip player_id="25357" first="Kassius" last="Ashtiani"] will get some run after transferring from Mater Dei. St. Bonaventure [player_tooltip player_id="115460" first="Anthony" last="Wolter"] is a high-profile quarterback for Saint Bonaventure and Manny Rosales is a quarterback who is a very good athlete. [player_tooltip player_id="261716" first="Delon" last="Thompson"] is a star running back and we will see how they use him out of the backfield in the passing game and Koen Glover is an intriguing sophomore. [player_tooltip player_id="25394" first="Joaquin" last="Johnson"] is a returning receiver who had decent numbers last season. https://twitter.com/SeraphFootBall/status/1545809675211251712?s=20&t=ExWQ9qBtimZ_YV-LGwBGuw Sierra Canyon Lavon Brown is a star receiver for Sierra Canyon and recently committed to Colorado State. [player_tooltip player_id="25426" first="Josiah" last="Phillips"] is a good athlete who was offered by San Diego State recently and Jae'on Young is one of the top class of 2025 athletes in the state. [player_tooltip player_id="282739" first="Nevada" last="Miller"] is another intriguing sophomore for Sierra Canyon. [player_tooltip player_id="147748" first="Ruben" last="Gamboa"] is a great defensive back who transferred in from Chaminade and [player_tooltip player_id="282704" first="Alonzo" last="Esparza"] will compete for the starting quarterback job after transferring from Culver City. [player_tooltip player_id="147735" first="Alonzo" last="Contreras"] is also a quarterback at Sierra Canyon with Division 1 offers. https://twitter.com/AlonzoEsparza1/status/1541602039800598537?s=20&t=ExWQ9qBtimZ_YV-LGwBGuw
