This list has a lot of great 2023 under-the-radar prospects for college coaches to add to their recruiting board. They will get prospects with sizeable motors, instinct footwork, and weight room hungry young men. Find out who stood out in Part I from day two, as this prospect list was loaded up and punched out as everyone was stoked to get into their positions. Have a look!
Luke Dockendorf | DL/OL | Rocori | 2023
Luke showed off some of the most significant consistency from the defensive line group. I loved this young man’s punishing physicality he had with his hands throughout the high amount of reps I got to watch from him. he has an accelerator that gets out of his stance quickly and keeps a balanced composure from the start to finish of his reps. His biggest development going into the 2022 season would be is to keep working on his explosion, as based on what I watched rep after rep, I see more juice in Luke in person evaluation to improve. Although he doesn’t have tape yet, expect this kid to splash some waves at Blattner Stadium this fall on both ends of the ball.
Blake Tylutki | LB | Rocori | 2023
The older Tylutki brother is another prospect that really has developed from year one to year two. Blake has added 30 pounds of muscle from 185 to 215 pounds in July 2022 and hasn’t lost a step athletically with so much growth in the weight room. He’s grown certainly on his footwork, as he showed some of the best depth amongst the linebacker group with his crossover footwork and could cover a significant area in indy drills in pass coverage reps. Blake’s tape shows a distinguished act of consistently getting to the ball and using his sizeable physicality to stretch into deeper regions in the inside zone, as he shows solid stretch in his 5’11 frame. Blake in pass coverage is where I thought he grew the most from the duration of the camp, as he showed a stronger balance from the camp end from where he started. When you watch his tape in pass coverage, you can read into his skillsets that are there with his athletic movement, but I certainly thought Blake got way more comfortable this week formulating his steps in pass coverage. Certainly an LB prospect I would love to see play on Saturdays in the near future.
Cameron Ehlert | DB/WR | St. Cloud Cathedral | 2023
Another first-look prospect for me was defensive back Cameron Ehlert of St. Cloud Cathedral, a program I have scouted quite a bit over the years with my time with Prep Redzone Minnesota. What stood out about Ehlert? He’s not the biggest kid at 5’11 150 pounds, but his physicality when the ball is in the air certainly outplays the size of his measurables, as he plays significantly bigger than that when attacking inside the secondary. Cameron also shows a lot of solidity with his speed out of his stance. He’s got some development brewing with his change of direction and focusing on his balance with that change of direction, but there is some solid upside for Cameron going into his senior year. No tape yet, but a big senior season could give this young man a small school college football opportunity.
Ethan Anderson Ethan Anderson 6'0" | 160 lbs | WR Sauk Rapids-Rice | 2023 MN | DB/WR | Sauk Rapids-Rice | 2023
Ethan was a defensive back prospect that blossomed well in 1v1 reps that we got to catch late on Tuesday. He has that change of direction accelerator to fire up his motor and show a ton of reactive instincts by advancing a few yards to play a play on the outside where the ball is going. He also has it figured out with his ball physicality skillset, as when Ethan punches thru where the ball is he’s going to send it far out of where anyone might catch up with it. He shows a sizeable vertical when he needs to get into the air and he showed that a bit in the testing sessions from this week. Ethan gets consistent PBUs throughout his tape and always has his hands in the wide receivers cookie jar.
Hunter Nistler | DB/WR | Rocori | 2023
Hunter was another Rocori defensive back that passed the eye test on Tuesday in day two in Cold Spring. With some prospects, it is a matter of seeing their athletic gene come out when they need to progress into a different level of where the ball is going, and that is exactly what Hunter showed on Tuesday in indy drills. We probably throw the word instinct around a lot in the scouting football business, but that is because having that skill set is so important if you want to take your game to the next level. Watching Hunter’s tape from the offensive side of the ball his most recent tape might be from 2020, but even back then he shows the willingness with his athletic ability to make adjustments on the fly to assure he can make the catch and show off that athleticism. I certainly cannot wait for Hunter to get more film, as I was impressed on multiple days by him at Rocori. Ran one of the top pro agilities on day one too.
Mason Christiansen | LB | Rocori | 2023
Mason was one of the smallest linebackers I saw in the CMFA defensive camp, but the determination of this kid stuck out to me from the start of his evaluation. He shows excellent gas getting out of the first break of his stance and shows high explosion levels to get to the ball carrier. I also liked Mason’s pad level during bag drills, as he collapsed on the bag with a strong squeeze and sizeable punch motion that passed the eye test for me. He also impressed me with his change of direction too. Another off-the-radar prospect for the Spartans that has a lot of promise going into the fall 2022 season.
