The camp season has been in full swing. Players each week set their sights on college campuses to get a glimpse of inside the world of college football and get in front of coaches to get on their radar. Position specific camps, as well as camps put on by some of the best trainers in the country, also give athletes the opportunity to work on their craft. We will start a camp series that includes college camps and specialty camps as well. Here are four quarterbacks who turned heads at Baylor recently.
Lincoln Philyaw
C/O 2024
6’2 200
Position: Quarterback
High School: Cornerstone Christian
Twitter: @LincolnPhilyaw
Offers: The University Of Incarnate Word
Philyaw has the physical traits the college programs covet. He stands tall in the pocket, keeps his eyes downfield and when the pocket breaks down he can makes plays outside the pocket. Lincoln sees the field well and understands how to throw his target open. His footwork in the pocket is clean and his athleticism enables him to free himself from pressure. When the backfield gets muddy, Philyaw will make defenses pay with his running ability. In short yardage, Lincoln is deadly, able move the sticks using his big frame to breaks tackles and he has a nose for the end zone. At the Baylor camp, Philyaw’s footwork was smooth in the bag drills as well as the cone and ladder drills. His eyes and focus were up on his target, as he motored through the drills and he was on balance with his feet when he set to throw. Whether he rolled out and threw on the run or had manufactured pressure in his face, Philyaw kept his focus on his target. His deep ball had great touch and he was on target as the Baylor coaches progressed him through down and distances downfield from multiple angles and set up game situations for the campers to operate from. Philyaw has been ripping up the camp scene this summer and picked an offer recently from UIW after a great performance. A multi-sport athlete, Lincoln also excels on the basketball court where he can shoot the rock from deep and take the ball to the rack. His profile on the recruiting front is on the rise. Look for Lincoln to raise the bar this fall at Cornerstone in San Antonio.

Chad Warner Chad Warner 6'3" | 185 lbs | QB Byron P. Steele II | 2025 State TX
C/O 2025
6’2 170
Position: Quarterback
High School: Cibolo Steele
Twitter: @Chad4Warner
Offers: Grambling State University
Warner has been on a steady climb this offseason. He has a long, lean build with the arm strength to deliver the football from anywhere on the football field. His mechanics are razor sharp, he lines up his upper torso with his hips routinely to deliver frozen ropes. Chad scans the field quickly and goes thru his progressions to make the correct reads. His footwork in the pocket is superb, which sets the table for Warner to deliver accurate passes and his anticipation leads his targets to open spaces. He works the levels of the pocket with great awareness and when the pocket breaks down, he shows the mobility to navigate himself free. Chad’s natural instincts and athleticism take over when he scrambles. He has the speed to separate from defenders, which gives his team the ability to keep the sticks moving and makes him a threat to make a house call. At the Baylor camp, Chad handled the bag drills, cone and ladder drills well showing off his nimble feet. As the coaches progressed him thru situational drills, Warner showed off his electric arm. He made exceptional throws on the run and delivered strikes from a variety of angles. He showed great touch on his deep ball, which garnered him praise from the coaches. Grambling State made an early offer to Chad, but before he completes his Steele career he will have more suitors. Warner is poised to take over the reins of the Steele offense this fall.

Kevin Sperry
C/O 2025
6’1 190
Position: Quarterback
High School: Prosper Rock Hill
Twitter: @KevinSperry9
Offers: Austin Peay, SMU, Baylor, Florida State, UTSA, Texas Tech, Texas A&M
Sperry is a gifted passer who can make all of the throws on the route tree. He has a strong, powerful build, and the athleticism to make explosive plays with his feet. Kevin runs with power, good forward lean, has jitterbug feet to make players miss in the open field and his speed enables him to separate from defenders at the second level. Making accurate throws from various platforms is what makes Sperry special. When he has a clean pocket, he makes defenses pay and they are at his mercy. His playmaking ability is at it’s best, when the protection breaks down. He works the levels of the pocket well and his footwork is clean and deliberate. Sperry runs the RPO game like a veteran, keeps his focus on the edge defender and pulls the ball when needed after making the correct read. He excels at the short to intermediate routes with his ability to fit the football into small windows and has a quick, whip like release. When he sets up to throw, Sperry has a strong base. Kevin has great touch on his deep ball and gets the nose of the ball up and drops the ball in the bucket with accuracy. His strength in his upper body and hips, allows him to add power to his throwing mechanics and enhances his ability to torque his torso quickly. At the Baylor camp, he maneuvered thru each drill with purpose, his footwork in and out each bag or ladder was clean. As the campers transitioned into the throwing drills, Sperry began to heat up with each throw. Whether he was making throws on the run, working on pocket mobility, dropping into three to 5 step drops, taking snaps under center or lining up in the shotgun, Sperry displayed his ability to make the adjustment and throw frozen ropes. The Bears coaching staff put the campers through several situational drills at different intervals, as well as multiple downs and distances that replicated in game situations. Kevin rose to each challenge and tossed dime after dime to receivers and dropped gems in the catching net. After his standout performance, Sperry left Waco with an offer from Baylor. He was also invited and competed at the Elite 11 Regional Competition earlier in the spring. After leading the Rock Hill JV throwing for 2,349 yards with twenty-seven touchdowns, Kevin will be the signal caller for Rock Hill the next three years. Look for Sperry to elevate Blue Hawk football to new heights.

Peyton Houston
C/O 2027
5’10 165
Position: Quarterback
School: Calvary Baptist Academy (Shreveport La.)
Twitter: @PeytonHouston8
Offers: Grambling State, Louisiana Tech, Ole Miss, Texas Tech
Houston is the total package. He has the stature that is more mature than his actual age of thirteen. A muscular build to accompany is athletic frame, enables him to play at a different pace from his opponents. His base from the ground up is strong, his footwork is clean and Peyton waste no steps during his set up. Houston possesses the arm strength to drive the ball into tight windows, has a quick trigger that enables him to get the football out on time and he has shown the awareness to make correct reads quickly. When he sees it, he rips it!!! He opens hips well to his target and understands how to throw his wide outs open. He has a great launch angle on his deep ball, which allows his receivers to run under his throw easily. After he beats the defense with his arm talent, he puts them to sleep with his athletic prowess as a runner. In the open field, he has the quickness to make opponents miss and the long speed to be a threat to score from any down and distance. At first glance during the Baylor camp scouting his game, he skill set was comparable to a player who would be in their sophomore year. The football jumps from his hand, he squares his shoulders well to his target and his footwork during the drills was clean. As the coaching staff set the obstacle course of down and distance, game situation scenarios to test each players in game IQ, Houston showed that he is ready to ascend to the next level once he completes his eighth grade year. He looked sharp on his deep throws and his ability to be accurate on the run stood out. Colleges have began to put Peyton on their prospect sheets in the Class of 2027. After hitting the camp scene this summer, Houston picked offers from Grambling State, Louisiana Tech, Ole Miss and Texas Tech. Houston uses his super powers on the baseball diamond as well, showing power from the right side of the plate and he has the ability to get extra bags by using his speed. Peyton will push to be rated as a top ranked player definitely in Louisiana and will garner national attention before his high school career is finished.
