This means there are hundreds of prospects in the state that are highly productive and prolific players at this level and are capable of making an impact beyond high school. So naturally, some prospects fall under the radar in this state.
Here, we take a look at some of the best 2023 prospects in Georgia without an offer.
Keegan Stover – QB – Rabun County
During his high school career, Stover has been one of the most prolific passers in the entire state. In total, he has thrown for almost 4000 yards and 45 TDs against just 7 INTs. Stover also has great size at around 6’4 225 pounds. For those two reasons alone, the fact that he hasn’t seen tons of interest on the trail is definitely a head-scratcher. On film, you will notice that Stover has a quick release which allows him to put the ball into tight windows. He also shows some great pocket awareness with his ability to extend plays and step into his throws. He can attack all levels of the field and has the uncanny ability to throw on the move and off platform. Stover will be the predecessor to UGA signee and record-breaking QB Gunner Stockton, so there will be plenty of eyes on Stover this fall. Regardless, he has the tools to be a more than capable QB at the next level, and it is only a matter of time before that first offer rolls in. Stover has checked out schools like East Carolina, South Alabama, North Dakota State, South Florida, and Appalachian State. He told me back in April that he had been hearing from some Power 5 schools.
Tre Reece – ATH – Gainesville
After rushing for 631 yards last year on over 10 YPC, Reece transferred to Gainesville, where he will have an even bigger stage to showcase what he is capable of. On film, you see him showcase his playmaking ability with the ball in his hands as he played in a wishbone offense last season. He has excellent elusiveness, speed, and shiftiness. After all, he did run for more than 10 yards per carry. Reece also played some on the defensive ball, where he flies to the ball and makes big hits. On the camp circuit this spring and summer, Reece has shown that he has more than enough ability to be a quality pass catcher, and I saw that with my own eyes during spring practice. I think at the end of the year, you will see Reece fill up the stat sheet in a bunch of ways. He is a true swiss army knife type of player, and some schools will be willing to take a shot on his versatility.
Giovanni Newsome – ATH – Athens Academy
Newsome is yet another versatile prospect that has silently shown a lot to like on film. I said recently that if Newsome was 6’1 instead of 5’7, then he would have plenty of offers, and I stand by that statement. Even with his smaller stature, he is an incredibly physical player and shows it on film. He is able to bounce off tacklers in the run game, go up and make physical plays at receiver, and even be a factor in the blocking game. On top of that, he has great speed and elusiveness and is a big play threat every time he touches the ball. Along with his contributions on offense, he was one of the more productive returners in the state last season and clearly takes pride in the impact he makes on special teams. Newsome is a valuable player because he can do so much at a high level, and I think that is more important than his size.
Demarco Brownlee – RB – Lithia Springs
Brownlee is an intriguing prospect. He has had to play some QB the last few seasons, and now I believe he is going to start settling into a more comfortable role at the RB position. Which for the record, I think Brownlee is perfect for. At 6’1 220, he is bigger than most college RBs. You could expect that he is a very physical prospect that packs quite a punch at contact, and that is certainly true. The part of his game that is surprising is his athleticism and versatility. He doubles as a decent pass catcher, which can be seen on film and is something I saw in person recently. On top of that, he is a smooth runner that does a great job of weaving his way through the defense for his size. I wouldn’t say he is the fastest guy on the field, but he is extremely explosive and can get to the second level in a hurry. Brownlee has a special combination of size and athleticism, which is something colleges can’t overlook for long.
Duncan Hogg – TE – Chattahoochee
Hogg is a matchup nightmare at the TE position with his combination of size and athletic ability. On top of that, he happens to be an extremely fundamental blocker that blocks with violence. As a blocker, he does a great job of sizing up his defender, getting his hands inside their arms, and driving them out of the play with his legs. Sometimes he is so strong with his upper body that he can just toss defenders to the ground almost effortlessly. As a receiver, he shows the ability to line up all over the field and attack matchups. He is obviously a big target with a large catch radius, but he is quick off the line and is a surprisingly fluid route runner that can create separation from faster defenders. He also shows the ability to twist and turn his body in many ways and still reel in the football. A natural receiver with elite blocking skills should make him valuable regardless of if he sticks at TE or ends up at receiver. He has the skillset to add another element to an offense.
