This is going to be a long series of new additions to our rankings to make sure that each young man is highlighted. That being said, there are P5 caliber recruits down to D3/JUCO recruits. The moral of the story, each of these young men did the work and deserved a spot in our rankings. We’re here to highlight their hard work. Without further ado, let’s take a look at Pt. 2 of our New Additions to the 24′ Rankings.
Corey Taubr Corey Taubr 5'10" | 170 lbs | ATH St. Laurence | 2024 IL Twitter
Mr. Taubr can line up in the slot and is used across the offensive side of the ball to get the ball into his hands. When he runs jet sweeps he uses his lateral quickness to turn the corner where he uses his foot quicks to outrun 2nd level defenders. This young man isn’t afraid to secure the catch in the middle of the field and showcases glimpses of making the first defender miss in open space. On defense, he’s not afraid to come down in run support as he’s a solid wrap up tackler that showcases glimpses of driving through the tackle. Overall, Mr. Taubr is a young man to keep an eye on as he has the potential to play on both sides of the ball at the next level. A high potential young man that has his best ball ahead of him.
Torey French Torey French 5'8" | 160 lbs | ATH Carmel Catholic | 2024 State IL Twitter
Mr. French is a young man that I had the opportunity to see in person during our PRZ IL Showcase where he didn’t disappoint. This young man has the ability to close the cushion on the defender playing in off coverage and then gain a step on the defensive back to win over the top when he runs deep shots downfield. What’s one to keep an eye on is his ability to get in/out of breaks with his route running to create separation from the defender on the play – also keep an eye on his ability to get in/out of the hole quickly when he’s lined up at halfback too. This young man is an overall athlete that has the potential to play on both sides of the ball at the next level. Overall, I expect his recruiting stock to rise as a result of a productive fall season. I wouldn’t be surprised if he comes away with an offer or two with where his skill set is currently at and taking into consideration the potential that he has as well.
Cael Brezina Cael Brezina 6'3" | 210 lbs | LB Downers Grove North | 2024 State IL Twitter
Mr. Brezina is an outside linebacker that showcases glimpses of covering sideline to sideline in pass coverage and triggering downhill quickly to close on the ball carrier to secure the tackle at the line of scrimmage for no gain. When he’s in zone coverage he can play through the man as opposed to the ball to come away with the pass deflection. This young man is an interesting player this fall to see how he is integrated into the rest of the Varsity linebacker core. Overall, Mr. Brezina has the potential to be an impactful linebacker on Varsity and you could see this young man transition to the secondary as his skill set would transition well there.
Lleyton Miller Lleyton Miller 5'9" | 160 lbs | RB Decatur Lutheran | 2024 IL
Mr. Miller is a new name to me but after speaking with his HC and analyzing his film he deserves a spot in our rankings. Yes, he does play 8 man football out in Decatur BUT that doesn’t mean that he doesn’t have the skill set to play at the next level. His ability to get in/out of the hole quickly to gain a step on 2nd level defenders to break a long run is one to keep an eye on moving forward. If the front side running lane is clogged up this young man also flashes his ability to find the cutback lane turning a net zero gain into a net positive gain on the play. If you’re looking for a one cut and go type of halfback take a look at this young man. Mr. Miller is also used in the return game where once he finds the alley he has the ability to break long runs for six. Overall, I’m very interested to see his production this fall and I look forward to seeing more of his potential come to light.
Aaron Ball Aaron Ball 6'0" | 190 lbs | RB St. Laurence | 2024 State IL Twitter
Mr. Ball is a high potential player that is only just starting to scratch the surface with his skill set. Once he secures the handoff he can burst through the line of scrimmage using his foot quicks to get through and flashes glimpses of making the first defender miss once he gets through the hole. If you try to weak grab tackle this young man, he has the ability to break it as he continues to fight for extra yards by keeping his feet driving through the whistle. He’s also used as a lead blocker on outside zone where he’s aggressive at the point of attack resulting in him blowing up the edge defender to create an alley for the ball carrier. Overall, keep a close eye on this young man as I expect his recruiting stock to increase as a result of his fall season production.
