Chiles completed 73 percent of his passes for 1,187 yards and 10 touchdowns with two interceptions last season. He also rushed for 344 yards and four touchdowns. He suffered an injury late in the season.
He chose Oregon State over 9 other schools that offered him, including Washington State, Kansas State, Oregon, Rutgers and Washington among others.
Chiles is the first player from California in Oregon State’s 2023 recruiting class. He has improved steadily over the past two years as a passer and a runner. When I saw him at the Battle at the Beach passing tournament last summer, he was a natural leader in the huddle despite not being on the team for very long.

Mission Viejo class of 2023 receiver Mikey Matthews Mikey Matthews 5'10" | 180 lbs | WR Mission Viejo | 2023 State CA visited and was offered by Michigan this week.
Matthews has 19 offers and is scheduled to visit Utah on June 24 and visited Michigan, Michigan State and Notre Dame this weekend.
When I first saw him as a sophomore, I thought he was a good pass catcher who runs good routes with some upside. Since then, he has improved his explosiveness and has the speed to hang with the top receivers out west. He is one of the best playmakers in the state.
Matthews told Brice Marich of 247Sports that Michigan is up there among his list of favorite schools right now. “Getting the offer from Coach Harbaugh was pretty awesome because his resume speaks for itself. Meeting coach was good, he brought good vibes and had amazing energy,” Matthews told Marich. “Michigan is most definitely up there. Trying to see how much the coaches are going to push for me. Other than that, I liked it up there.”
